So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you. Mariah Carey". More about Barry:"I am a retired corporate lawyer who worked in the publishing industry for over 30 years. In addition to my career as a lawyer, I became involved in public service..In 1983 I served on the Board of Trustees of our HOA in Marlboro, NJ as VP and Pres. In addition, I was actively involved in Democratic politics for many years in NJ. I served as a school board member for one term and served two terms (8 years) on the Marlboro Township Council, holding the positions of President and VP. I extremely proud of one accomplishment while I was a Councilman. e watching a CNN piece when a mother from outside Phila., Patty Pena, described an accident that involved a driver on a cell phone that went through a stop sign while on a hand-held cell phone, and rammed into her car killing her 2 1/2 year old daughter. Ms. Pena, on behalf of her daughter, started a crusade, including a website that included the Ohio law. I was stunned about the lack of such important safety laws in our country when my research showed that while the U.S. had only one town with this law, numerous countries around the world banned such conduct! Thus, I introduced an ordinance in our Council to prohibit such conduct in our town, with a $250 fine. Six other NJ towns followed suit. The result was instantaneous media attention from local networks (CBS, NBC ABC) plus local cable channels who attended our hearings on the ordinance. It passed on a 4-1 vote, and I became the go-to legislator on this new issue. I was interviewed by these local networks and cable stations. In addition, I appeared on the NBC Today Show and was interviewed by Caty Couric, the Burden of Proof on CNN with Roger Cossack ( a follow-up program to his coverage of the OJ case), It's Your Call with Lynn Doyle in Phila., and appeared on numerous NJ cable TV shows. I did over 50 radio interviews and I testified before the NJ legislature to persuade this body to enact statewide legislation. NJ became the second state in the country to pass this law after NY. At present, almost every state has legislation banning people from driving while on a cell phone and prohibiting texting while driving. I am very proud of my role in this endeavor. Presently, I am living in Naples, FL and was selected by our developer to be a member of the Transition Committee in order to serve on our Board of Directors. I was elected to the Board and served two terms. As a retired lawyer, I used my skills, predominantly negotiating, drafting and reviewing contracts including landscaper agreements and commercial leases. We have two children and four grand children who all reside in NJ.
