Barry's Story

My story, eh! Well, unfortunately I was not able to graduate with all you folks as my family moved to Estevan half-way through the school year. I still have the lovely pair of boxer underwear that some of you autographed as a going away gift! It's funny what a person will save and carry around with him for forty years. Anyways, after completing high school I worked in the oil patch for 2 years before returning to a life of academic pursuit. I graduated with a degree in social psychology from the University of Winnipeg. I then moved to Calgary and worked as a family development counselor for 12 years. While there I meet and married a wonderful person, we called it quits 7 years later. Divorce can be a tough road to navigate, thank goodness I had some great friends and DISCO was alive! Over the next few years I spent a lot of time traveling and working. Trips to Mexico, Greece and Turkey, and an extended leave of absence to ski all the major ski resorts in the USA. After a couple of years of the good old single life I met my present wife Ann. After a 3400 km. cycling trip that took us from Holland down to Spain and back up to England I decided that I might want to try marriage again! I also decided that a major career change was in order. Through some personal connections I got involved in the nordic ski industry. My next job was operating a snow cat in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park situated between Calgary and Banff. While there I was fortunate to be asked to help out with the tracksetting and course development for the 88 Olympic games at Canmore. During the games I actually met Princess Ann (wow...Expand for more
), when I set up a 10 kilometer course just for her and her 6 bodyguards. Anyways, that was then. What is now? Ann and I eventually moved to Delaware Ontario where I became involved in her parents privately owned outdoor education and recreation center. We offer a variety of educational programs to all age groups of children and corporate groups. Our main economic engine is our summer camp programs with a focus on western horseback riding.(Coming from Saskatchewan, I felt qualified to ride a horse, eh!) After being here for 20 years, us older members of the family have decided it is now time for a succession in the business and we now have our nephews and children taking over the business. No more seven days a week for us and little do they know! Check us out just google Circle R Ranch. Lastly, I have to tell you is that I am the very proud father of two wonderful sons! Raising children wasn't in the cards initially, however, thank goodness that changed! Logan just turned 17 and Nicholas is 13. The boys are both into playing football, Logan's team is going to Ohio for a week in September. They are both accomplished athletes, unlike, their father! We spend our down time at the family cottage on a beautiful island in Lake Temagami and down hill skiing at Mont Tremblant in the winter. Finally, I would like to say that I had and still do have many fine memories of Riverview! I still think of all of the fun times I had with you folks, too bad many of those times were in the office chatting with Mr. Robinson! I do hope that maybe we will meet again, who knows but take care and have a wonderful life!
