Barry's Story
I grew up being mostly poor and sometimes humiliated by the fact, especially in my high school years. I was raised the oldest of ten boys--no girls.
My first job was at Two Guys From Italy (long since out of business) in Orem, Utah at age sixteen in 1978, where I got paid $2.35 an hour to wash dishes. What I remember most about it is how much I disliked washing dishes and cleaning up.
I attended three high schools in "Utah Valley": Provo, Timpview and Orem. I graduated in 1980, but should have graduated in '79. As a Junior at Timpview half way thru the school year, my family moved from Provo to Orem and since I knew I didn't have the credits to graduate (I goofed off, ditched classes and had way too much fun), I asked the Orem High Principal if I could drop back down to being a Sophomore. So, I was a Sophomore twice and a Junior twice in high school.
My first real girlfriend was a cute and fun girl named Shelly Johnson who I really liked a lot. We dated for six months before I ever got up the courage to kiss her. I finally broke up with her after I did something I could never forgive myself for (...Expand for more
which in hindsight, was such a stupid thing). She hated me more for breaking up with her, than she did for me having another gal-friend (out-of-state). I honestly thought I was doing her a favor by breaking up with her. Go figure. High school stupidity.
I dated several other girls in high school, though after Shelly, I never really did get serious with any again.
After high school, I went on a two-year church mission to British Columbia, came home and fiddled around for a few years, living with my folks and in general, being an irresponsible bum, but having a great time.
In October of 1988, I met the most wonderful woman I had ever met. She didn't think the same thing about me, but I won her over, anyway. We married seven weeks later. I still think she's the best woman I could ever have met. We have four beautiful children--boy, girl, boy, girl.
I currently have my own successful show in Branson, Missouri with five younger brothers. We are quite simply known as "SIX" and seem to do quite well, especially for having only been in Branson since November of 2006. We were awarded "Best New Show".
