I grew up being mostly poor and sometimes humiliated by the fact, especially in my high school years. I was raised the oldest of ten boys--no girls. My first job was at Two Guys From Italy (long since out of business) in Orem, Utah at age sixteen in 1978, where I got paid $2.35 an hour to wash dishes. What I remember most about it is how much I disliked washing dishes and cleaning up. I attended three high schools in "Utah Valley": Provo, Timpview and Orem. I graduated in 1980, but should have graduated in '79. As a Junior at Timpview half way thru the school year, my family moved from Provo to Orem and since I knew I didn't have the credits to graduate (I goofed off, ditched classes and had way too much fun), I asked the Orem High Principal if I could drop back down to being a Sophomore. So, I was a Sophomore twice and a Junior twice in high school. My first real girlfriend was a cute and fun girl named Shelly Johnson who I really liked a lot.
