Barry's Story

Eulogy for Barry McNamee 8/27/1940-1/18/2009 Welcome, I am Barrys daughter Veronica. For those who did not know our Dad, I am not going to tell you about his missions to end world hunger or his weekly Sunday mornings at Church or the endless nights helping us cram for tests, because that was NOT OUR DAD.. Our Dad was the man that when my mother first saw him at a gas station in Central Islip, said that she would marry him someday, and did for 43 years. Our Dad was the one that on his first date with my mother took her out to breakfast and got a six pack of beer. Our Dad was the man who skipped through the mall holding my mothers hand in the 80¿s. Our Dad is the man who always wrapped my mothers presents in the Sunday comics. Our Dad was the man, while walking me down the aisle to marry my husband, saw me crying and said to me ¿ God, look at all these people her to see me¿ meaning him¿so I laughed the rest of the way down. Our Dad is the man who when Michael gave our mother an attitude came flying over the wall put Michael through it and then threw him out of the house, and when Michael asked if he could come back home my father told him ¿as long as you fix that wall that I put you through..¿ Our Dad is the man who when my sister came in late one night he went to her room, ripped all her posters and black lights off the wall and took all her jeans and told her she was going to catholic school. Our Dad was the man who called me to investigate some giggling coming from a tent in our backyard, only to find my brother Kevin in it with numerous girls, and instead of getting mad at Kevin, my father thought it was funny¿ Our Dad is the man that while standing at the ambulance getting ready to go to Rehab, I was crying and telling him not to leave and he said while laughing and crying, ¿Can you...Expand for more
make up your mind because it is you that is making me go¿¿. Our Dad is the man who took our cousins name Drea and make it into a 1 minute name by calling her: DDRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAA and she in turn calls him: UUUUNNNNCCCCLLLLEEEEBBBAAARRRYYYYYYY. Our Dad is the man who without guilt would call Betty and Aileen McCourt the Lee¿s Sisters. UGLY AND HOMLY and they loved it¿ THAT WAS OUR DAD.. I read this poem (Author Unknown) He's rough and lacks in etiquette, Society would say. He has no classy attributes, To help him on his way. He's not a fancy dresser, And he's not so trimmed and neat. With simple clothes and simple shoes, He wears upon his feet. He doesn't belong to a club, Or drive a shiny car. And when he takes vacations, He does not go very far. He doesn't dine on fine cuisine, To him fast food's a treat. And he may use a plastic fork, When it is time to eat. He has a modest little house, But has all that he needs. He keeps his lawn cut nice and short, He even trims his weeds. He worked long hours at his job, To make an average pay. And even if he was sick or tired, He went to work each day. His job was just a maintenance job, His pay just made ends meet. But a few good friends and family, Made his life complete. He's not well versed in poetry, Theater or the arts. And wisdom is not something, That he constantly imparts. He loved the simple things in life, For riches doesn't thirst. He knows what is important, And his family is put first. The wealth that God has given him, To treasure in his life, Two Loving daughters Two loving sons And a very special wife. He never has much money, And his life is not a show, But he is still the richest man, That I will ever know. To others he's a simple man, And fame he's never had, But he's the greatest man we know, He also is our dad.
