Barry's Story
After high school, I went to Colgate University in New York. It was way too cold and the fact it was all men bothered me more than I expected. After one year, I came back to ASU and graduated in 1971. Expecting to get drafted (lottery number 8) I just screwed around for a while, then joined the Arizona National Guard 155th artillery battalion. After active duty for training at Fort Polk, Louisiana and Fort Sill, Oklahoma, I went to ASU Law School, graduating and passing the bar exam in 1976. I was a Deputy County Attorney in Kingman for a year, then sold my house and went to Europe. After I got home, I bacame a Deputy County Attorney in Pinal County, then an Assistant Attorney General. then Assistant Chief Administrative Law Judge for the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Along the way, I married another lawyer, Janet and we had two kids. Our son went to Penn State, met a girl (now our daughter...Expand for more
-in-law) and stayed there. He also went to law school against our advise and is now an Assistant District Attorney for Berks County in Reading, PA. Our daughter is a U of A student and will graduate this year. She has a bit of wanderlust and hopes to teach English in Europe and/or Asia. She speaks French and Japanese fairly well, if not fluently, and a smattering of a few other languages.
Since my slightly younger wife retired in 2013, we have started spending the kids' inheritance traveling. We've been to China, Europe a couple times, and several destinations on both coasts and beyond (Hawaii). More is planned.
We live in Tempe, less than a mile from THS. I run on the track there. (I go too slow to call it running; I jog.) Sometime soon we will downsize and move who knows where.
I see I have written much more than I intended. I guess it takes more than a couple sentences to sum up 50 years.
