In September of 1968 I was to enter Walton SHS as a freshman. Unfortunately that was the year of the teacher's strike and we were out of school until October 1st. My first year there as a 9th grader, was lonely, and scary the 12th graders - to my horror would wrap underclassmen in crepe paper and sometimes wet it. Thank God I was not one of those underclassmen. In the 10th grade I joined the Booster club and we traveled with the cheerleaders to Clinton SHS games (football / basketball/track meets). My first time at Clinton we managed to get caught in a stairwell during the changing of classes; the boys hollared and the girls, laughed, and stepped away from the railings (naturally the staircase was caged in - the boys where going down and we were going up)some of the girls screamed (I've yet to understand why?)at Walton we were made to take gymnastics in gym - I loved tumbling and hopping over that horse, I hated the uneven bars and the balance beam wasn't that bad unless of course they asked you to do something crazy like run across it and jump up.
