Becky's Story
Life
My name is Anna Rebecca Caldbeck. I go by the name of Becky. I was born on December 31, 1978, in Memphis, Tennessee. I am the daughter of Bill and Sandy Caldbeck. After I was born my parents decided to move back to Georgia to be near my motherÂs family so I could grow up around my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I have lived in Lee County since 1980. As a child I truly enjoyed going to school. In fact, every afternoon when I got home from school my friend (Sabrina Cox) and I would play school!
I graduated from Lee County High School in 1997. While I was in high school I was active in the drama program, student government, and was editor of our high school yearbook. As a member of the Future Georgia Educators, I had the opportunity to spend a whole day in a kindergarten classroom. I received scholarships from the Professional Association of Georgia Educators and from Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority.
One of my most rewarding experiences during high school was volunteering with the South West Georgia Council on Aging.
I attended Darton College and graduated in the Fall of 2000 with an Associates of Science Degree in Education. While at Darton I was active in student government and The Darton Players/Delta Psi Omega serving as president for two years. I have worked on fourteen productions with the Darton Players. Ever summer since 1999 I have worked with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in both the Darton Activity and Discovery
camps. This ...Expand for more
is one experience I thoroughly enjoyed and will always remember.
I am an active member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Albany where I have taught classes in Vaccation Bible School. I also teach Sunday School and ChildrenÂs Church when needed. I am also a member of the Baptist Young Women's Group.
Since the first day of kindergarten I have known that I wanted to be a teacher. My mother likes to tell the story about how I used to play preplanning week! I feel that I will be a positive influence on the children I will teach. It is so wonderful to see their eyes light up when they realize they have learned something new.
As a child at Lee Co. Primary and Elementary Schools, I was fortunate to have some really wonderful, caring, and exciting teachers. I believe, for the most part, that these teachers had an influence on my wanting to be a teacher. I wanted to be just like them. I also believe that coming from a family with many aunts, uncles, and cousins who are teachers also had an influence on me. Education is very important in my family.
I graduated in May 2003 from Georgia Southwestern State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I began teaching in the fall of 2003 at a small private school in Albany.
On August 24th (my mother's birthday) I was married to Thomas Wayne Parker Jr. at Lakeside Baptist Church. Tom is from a huge family and grew up in Central City, Iowa. We currently live on the avenues in Albany with our cat Goofey.
