Becky's Story

Life I have been married to Rob Rycerz from Hessville, Indiana for 18 years. I have been a Kindergarten teacher for the school town of Highland for the past 26 years. Rob has been a fireman for the City of Hammond for the past 19 years. We have three wonderful children. We have a set of twins, a boy and a girl age 17. We also have a second son age 15. Hunter and Nick both play football for Highland. Brooke likes to paint and draw. Our family has a white and a black lab. The family likes to go camping and fishing in the summer time. We like to visit different amusement parks too! High School There are so many funny stories and memories from my High School days. I remember Mr. Sunny's class and getting teased a great deal by him. Mr. Young's History class kept all of us laughing. Phillips asked a certain young lady (L.M) if he could borrow a pen. She ended up accidently handing him a tampon. He then said, "What the heck am I suppose to do with this?" It was a moment in "History" that I won't ever forget! I can't even remember when I met Steve Dahlkamp, yet he became one of my favorite people in high school and in college. We have shared many fun and memorable times together. I do remember him showing up at my house after a New Year's Eve party. He finished some of the food that was left on the tables as I scrubbed the basement floor.(It was about 2:00 in the morning.) We always had something to discuss no matter what time of the day. Steve, Les Chandler and Jeff Vaugn were always the nicest guys to talk with about anything. Then there was the Foods class with Hoffman and Topor. Remember the orange-soap and salt pie? Chemistry was not one of my best subjects, yet the class was a good time with Mary Guiden, Lewe , Phillips, Paul, Dan and Brasher. English was always one of my favorite classes. I remember being teased because I used mini flashcards to study my vocab words. Even though Lewe teased me for using them, it didn't stop him from borrowing them every Friday. Then there was Scott Abbott and his huge feet! We would put my foot next to his and just laugh! I also had fun listening to Gootie in English. He was the best at telling a good story and making us all laugh. One of the best times was during senior year. A small group of us went to Daytona Beach in Florida. Mary Bartowski, Cheryl Nagy, Liz Kaznak, Robin Ellis, Dee Doran and I flew to Florida. We met several groups of guys and had a really good time. Although our drinks of choice had something to be desired.(Red, White and Blue beer...Boones Farm Strawberry Hill wine) We improved along the way with the help of our new friends. It was an eye opening experience for all of us. It was my first time to sit on a beach and watch the sun come up. It was great! The parties at the end of senior year were also a great deal of fun. A large group of us visited the beach several times. The house parties at A.G.'s and L.K's were a blast! John Muntean had a few extra lawn ornaments one night. Tom Simkin's had an extra body on his front steps one night too. Thanks to Laura Chiabai and Anne Garretson who introduced me to a new drink. Laura's birthday party at her house in Valparaiso was a good time. There were the float meetings at Niki's, Lynn's, Tammy...Expand for more
Topor's and my house.(Many other places too!) We always managed to laugh a great deal. We always had very good floats! It was great working on the Prom also. It was a very unexpected honor to get on court. I did have a great time thanks to my cousin Jim. Jim replaced my date that decided he didn't want to go a few days before the Prom. I ended up dancing with everyone else's dates and had a great time. My cousin didn't do too bad either! Then there was cruising around with Laura and the gang on bikes or in cars, we always had fun. Friday nights at the Garretson house were fun too! Anne and Shelly sharing clothes was always the hot topic of the evening...at least until the guests arrived. Sisterly love! Laura and I were glad to have brothers! Ha! Ha! Powder Puff was a blast! I don't think I even got to play one minute. It didn't stop me from having fun! I enjoyed going to watch my best friend Lisa Reato at the band competitions and the football half-time shows. I met so many friends through her. We had so many fun times growing up together. She is one of the smartest people I know. College I attended Purdue-Calumet in 1982-83. I transferred to Indiana University in the fall of 1983 with my new friend Carolyn Ray. We stayed in the McNutt dorm on different floors. It was a wild and crazy year there! Laura Chiabai was one of my best friends from highschool and she also stayed in McNutt. McNutt is where I made so many new friends and loved all the fun times I had there. Stacey Dinucchi, Mary Timmons, Greg Dipple, and Sharon were just a few that made my stay at McNutt great! Peggy Excell and Mary Bartowski came from the region to attend I.U. the following year. Peggy, Mary B., Sharon , Dave Pence (another region friend) and I all roomed together in a townhouse in TimberRidge. I had a great year there! I ended up moving again to Dunhill Apts. and staying there my last three years at I.U.. Every place I moved there were new friends and many happy memories. Dunhill apartments was the best place ever. I met some great friends there. We had some unbeliveable parties and good times. Cindy Zimmerman,Mary, Robin, Laura, Niki,Liz,Tom, Peg, John, Hal, Brett Huddleston, Randy Chapman, Nick Tuttle, Jeff,Andy K., Alexis Sanchez, Andy,Nora,Dawn,Connie Hyte,Debbie,Steve Dahlkamp,Steve,Mark,Greg Davidson,Bill Harrington, Mike,Eric,Mary T.,Greg Johnson, Stacy and Mike are only a few of the many friends that I will always remember and be ever grateful to for making that time of my life the best ever! (I am sorry if I left out anyone!) Little 500 parties were the best! Woffle ball games at Dunhill. The week before classes started and all the parties we attended, especially the one at the K building in Dunhill. That was the closest I ever came to getting kicked out of an apartment before the school year ever started. The Johnny Cougar concert was the best! The Timber Ridge party with a band and endless kegs was so much fun! It was the time of my life! P.S. I am so glad you were a part of my life "Carolyn". You will always live on in our hearts. You will always be my "Birthday Buddy". I couldn't have celebrated my 21st birthday with anyone better! I hope you, Mark, and Jimmy are all together watching over the rest of us!
