Becky's Story

Life I was born January 1, 1957 and raised in Kansas City, KS. I attended grade school at Christ the King grades 1-8, high school 2 years at Washington(1971-73),Schlagle (1973-1975),and Regis College in Denver, CO 1975-1979. I worked various jobs in Denver for 3 years, then moved back to Kansas City the summer of 1982 to marry Bob Bransley. We have lived in Palatine, Buffalo Grove and currently Lindenhurst, all in Illinois. Bob & I welcomed our one and only, Sarah Nicole, on January 27, 1989. She started high school in August 2003. I am currently working as a substitute teacher in 3 different school districts, grades K-8. I've been an assistant soccer coach for the park district, a Girl Scout leader for the past 8 years, a customer service supervisor, an office temp, a senior data entry clerk, an assistant manager in a restaurant, a room mom, a school volunteer, a church volunteer, a community volunteer, waitress, retail clerk, and other positions that escape my overloaded working soccer mom mind! Needless to say, I have kept myself busy with family, friends, co-workers, daughter, husband, a house that's too big to keep clean all the time with my school commitments, work commitments, volunteer commitments and also taking time to relax when I have the house to myself, which is more often as Sarah gets closer to the driving age. The thought that I have been out of college longer than I had been alive when I graduated from college or gotten married is mind-boggling. I have lived a lifetime, yet I look forward to living that much longer. My sincere prayer is that all those people who have touched my life in a positive way have had as full of a life as I have had and will live longer and happier lives! No matter your circumstances, live long and be happy. E-mail me or look me up! School I've lived a lifetime since school and could only remember everything I did by cheating and going back to the yearbooks. For those of you who can't place the face with the name, I was the 2nd "L" on the SHS Stallionettes. I was in a ton of other activities for which I have neither the time nor space. Suffice it to say, I kept busy. Look me up in the yearbook if you can find yours! College I attended Regis College in Denver, Colorado from 1975-1979, receiving a BS(yah!yah! I know!) in Business Administration. I was involved in Women's Intramural Basketball in its infant stage for the college, worked in the Coffee House, the library, and the fieldhouse during the school year. And yes, I made the honor roll there, too. When Rho Chi Sigma decided to adopt little sisters into their program, I was happy to accept their invitation since most of the guys were already my buds! I thoroughly enjoyed my college experience both in and out of the classroom. Road Rallies through the Rocky Mountains...Expand for more
with Annie and Julie and Carol and the guys, formal dances, Friday afternoons in the Belial Bar, talent shows, boxing matches, intramural flag football, intramural softball, and on and on and on. Again, suffice it to say, outside of school I kept busy in college, too! It was a priceless education in both school and life for which I wouldn't change a stinkin' thing!!! Workplace Too many jobs to remember! I babysat and did yardwork for my first jobs, then graduated to bigtime at Macy's when I turned 16! Worked there through high school and then did summers and holidays during college. During college I worked in the coffeehouse, library and fieldhouse on campus. After college I worked less than a year at Casa Bonita as an asst mgr (YUK! COULDN'T STAND IT! GREAT PLACE TO WORK, BUT NOT MY ENCHILADA!). Then I took a job as a telemarketing manager for 2 years (perfect job....talking and telling others what to do and how to do it!). Then I worked for about a year for St Joseph hospital as a unit coordinator, doing many double shifts for big bucks! I left Denver in May of 1982 and spent the summer waitressing at Mrs. Peter's in KCK until my marriage in August, then worked part-time for Penney's at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL while looking for a career opportunity in the Chicago area. I worked for 7 years as asst cust svc supvsr for Chicago Magnet Wire in Elk Grove Village (a division of Phillips/Magnavox) and was transferred to Phillips Lighting Midwest Regional office in Itasca, IL. I was promoted to M/W Region Asst Supvsr after about 6 months and spent the next 3 years training the CS Reps and doing reports and whatnot. Due to the economy of early '90s and the downsizing of MANY MANY Fortune 500 companies, and the Phillips computer division having major losses that had to be absorbed by all the other divisions, my position was downsized and I was able to become a stay-at-home mom for my 2-yr old Sarah. Since that happened in 1991, I've held many many many temp positions for companies from the size of AllState Ins to little bitty offices with just a couple personnel. After temping for Firstar Bank almost 3 years, I accepted a permanent (part-time flex) position that lasted just about a year until they merged with USBank and I had no desire to accept a transfer to Fargo, ND. I was also substitute teaching during this time, and continue to do so today. I may expand my K-8 experiences in substituting to the high school level, but not until next year. I am currently between assignments in subbing, but keep myself busy with the awesome job of being a mom and wife, decorating our dream house, and expanding my horizons trying to keep pace with an extremely intelligent, very social 14 yr old high school girl, always looking for new and interesting opportunities to impact my resume.
