Belinda's Story
Life
A few days after graduation I went into the Navy. I actually entered on the "buddy" program with Pam (Benoist) McMahon. I thought I'd try a four year stint and ended up making a career of it and stayed 21 years! I was stationed in some interesting places, Okinawa Japan, Guam, Great Lakes Illinois, on a ship (USS DIXON AS-37) and several places in southern California, where I eventually settled. I got married in April of 1990 and gave birth to my beautiful son Jamie in September of 1994 while stationed in Illinois. Sadly, my little boy (he was nine years old, my only child and my entire world) was killed in a car crash in April of 2004 with his dad, Jim.

I've been trying to stay busy. I remarried, my best friend Pam was my Matron of Honor. I have two step-children Alaina is 23 and Buddy is 21. My husband retired in 2005 after 27 years in the Navy and we have been traveling. We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon and England twice in 2006. We are active in the San Diego MG Car Club. My friends gave me a dog (Bart the hound dog) to keep me company and I'm working part-time as a nurse for an aerospace company. I also volunteer at my son's school helping tend/maintain their "children's garden". My husband and I have donated many books to the elementary school and started a scholarship in Jamie's name, so some of his classmates can attend college in the future.
