Benaiah's Story
After graduation I enlisted in the US Army specializing in communications. I was blessed to avoid Viet Nam and was stationed in Asmara Ethiopia for a little over two years during which time I was able to visit Athens Greece tour the Holy Land and Paris France.
After being discharged I married, relocated to Kansas City Missouri, fathered two daughters and became the first Black salesman for Western Union Telegraph Co.

y family to California in 1980. Deciding that California was not the best place to raise children with the moral standards that I wanted, I moved back to Kansas City in 1987.
I got a job with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), first as a Single Family Underwriter, then as a Multifamily Underwriter and currently as a Management Information Specialist in HUD's Financial Management Center.
I lost my wife of 38 years in 2006 after a 15 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
