Sandra's Story

Life I've done pretty much everything that I've wanted to do except: 1. Spend a weekend in a castle on one of the British Isles. 2. Write an award-winning screenplay. Or ANY screenplay, for that matter. 3. Visit Jerusalem (big CHICKEN). When I think back on the things we did as kids at SHS, I'm amused at the comparison with the current teenaged populace. We were almost as wild (but not quite); we were just as cruel to our fellow classmates, but still semi-respectful of our teachers and parents; our dress was just as outrageous (but at least we had style). We DID...really! Our music was, hands down, the best. I'm glad that we grew up when we did. Today? Well, I'm pretty contented, actually. I think the 80s wore me out: too much struggle, too much competition, basically too much...excess. After 25 years in public and higher ed, with a tad of human service and corporate experience thrown in for good measure, I'm semi-retired now. Still pretty much a lone wolf, I live quietly and simply with my dogs and my gardens - do a little writing, a little training and am unfortunately addicted to cable news. I've outlined some chapters for a...Expand for more
book I'm thinking of writing: a light, humorous piece about growing up as an Italian-American female. Who knows? I'd love to know what some of YOU are doing, AND I'd like to know why the class of '75 never had a 25-year reunion - or perhaps we had one, and I missed it. So if anyone is out there: drop a line or two. God Bless, Sandy Bennett School High school was a really strange place for me. In my limited cultural background, I hadn't experieced cliques. Very bizarre stuff, that. I didn't quite "fit" anywhere...but I was okay with that, if a mite confused. I had few friends who were Jocks, a few who were Hippies and a couple who didn't fit in any place either. If I had to do it all again, though, I'd probably run with the artsy crowd. I GREATLY regret not having the guts to investigate drama and theatre. My most...umm..."lively" memory of it all was this enormous, completely illogical and hilariously obssessive infatuation with a guy from the Class of 73: all-consuming,highly comical and just a wee bit dangerous. Merely thinking back about it EXHAUSTS me. So why the heck aren't the rest of you WRITING more about yourselves?? Come ON!
