Bennie's Story

Life 7/10/05 It's been two years since I last updated this... now seems a pretty good time. Been in Asheville, NC for 3 years now and am generally starting to enjoy myself. We're now going through a boom phase where the mountains (S. Appalachians) are now beginning to get recognized by the more politically influential east (Raleigh and eastern counties) for investment in education, health services, and trade incentive packages. Myself, I've been working on building out a garden business (edibles) for about a year and a half now... to circumvent the (still) low wages available here even as the cost of living continues to rise. The boom nature of town should help alleviate the wage stagnation, but with so many salaried positions moving abroad, the opportunity to create one's own work and destiny is (and has been) at the forefront of my mind for some years now. I just started dating a wonderful girl (Dianna) who has instilled some great idea in me that no matter what I want to achieve, it's simply waiting there for me to accomplish. That's pretty awesome. Still traveling around the South as I can... took a trip down to Charlotte a few weeks back and made my way down to Atlanta two weeks ago, and have started camping again (3 times in two months) in this ...Expand for more
wonderfully scenic and peaceful region. The Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smoky Mtns. make elegant backdrops to pristine waters and vast forests... areas that can't be compared to Yosemite, Sequoia or King's Canyon (because there simply is no comparison to those spots), but have unique characteristics being that they reside in a riparian state with heavy amounts of rainfall with an ecosystem that may possibly have no rival in the world (due to the glaciation patterns present during the Ice Age in N. America). Last, but not least, I've started taking classes via the web originating from North Carolina State Univ. in a bid to get into the Agricultural Extension and Education Masters Program. Maybe yea, or maybe nay, one has to seek out what one wants to do and just simply give it the best go 'round possible. At least that's my attitude toward this project. But I'm hoping that I do well enough to end up with another piece of paper in my hand at some point in the future to show that I'm interested in the work at hand and the concepts and knowledge that go hand in hand. After all, it looks like plants and plant education will be my life's work... so might as well go as far as possible with the whole idea. Hope this finds everybody well, Ciao, Bennie
