Berl's Story

My early years were spent in the Browns Lane area of St. Matthews, but moved to Jeffersontown where he grew up on North Watterson Trail. rs before transferring to the U of L where he earned a Master’s degree in geology. Berl retired from the Jefferson County Public Schools teaching Earth Science at Crosby Middle School after twenty-seven years of teaching. His tenure at U of L was interrupted by being drafted into the Navy in 1967 during the Vietnam War. Berl spent most of his time in the military assigned to an aircraft carrier, the USS Constellation, which he affectionately refers to as €œConnie, € which at the present heading to be scrapped in Brownsville, Texas. You can appreciate the ship and Berla€™s work as webmaster. Currently I'm involved in many organizations, serving as officers of several. I'm the Vice President of the KY Society of Natural History. Berl is the President and webmaster of the Colorado Cherokee Trail Chapter of the Oregon-California Trail Association (OCTA) .
