Bernadette's Story
Life
I left New York City in 1969 searching for a place to raise children and just "get away." Jumped in a travel trailer with my husband and traveled 4+ years around the country. We have a daughter (born in 1970) and a son (born in 1971). We found Glenwood Springs in Colorado in 1974. I am still in Glenwood Springs. .
I went to work for a community college here in 1979 and can't believe I have finally retired. I was a resource developer who writes and manages a lot of the college's grants.
Divorced in 1985 and just never found anyone to "spend the rest of my life with."
I have traveled to Europe three times which is something I never thought would be possible.
One of the reasons I did get to travel is that my son became a world-class cyclist - - the Tour de France type.
In Athens in August 2004 he won a bronze medal in the Time Trial. It was very exciting and special.
My son and his wife have given me two beautiful granddaughters. My daughter gave me a grandson in 2010.

assmates. It has been a hoot finding folks.
I have even been contacted by a daughter of a friend who passed away before I joined Classmates.
College
CMC is a junior college. I started working there in 1978.
I started taking classes to upgrade my job skills and found myself listening to a counselor who suggested I go for the AA degree. It took about 10 years as I had a full time job, but I finally graduated with Phi Theta Kappa in 1991.
Update: I have retired for the second time but I am now the day care giver to my grandson, Halston Drake Julich.
Halston is the son of my daughter, Robin. With the recession, the father of the baby has no job, no income and no interest in his son except to say he has a son to his buddies. Grandma loves her latest "job" and it looks like I will be staying in Glenwood Springs for a while. Made it to Medicare in 2010.
I hope not to many of you are suffering in the recession. I'm not exactly untouched myself but learned a long time ago to depend on yourself and no one else.
