Bernard's Story
After graduating from Troy High School way back in 1971, I attended Hudson Valley Community College or as my wife Jane and several friends allude to it as Harvard on the Hudson. I obtained an Associates degree in Radiologic Technology after two years and that permitted me to get a license to x-ray people. I have been employed at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany,NY for well over 35 years. I have worked at several area hospitals and mobile imaging facilities over the past 35 years in either part time or per diem x-ray tech positions. All of these jobs including my main full time job at St. Peter's have been both challenging and rewarding in working with and helping out people which is precisely the reason why I was interested in becoming a health care worker in the first place so many years ago. I'm currently the so-called senior Tech on the 11pm-7am shift at St. Peter's Hospital. As far as my personal life is concerned,I am currently married and have been to my second wife,Jane for over 14 years. Previouisly I was married for 13 years to a hair stylist and have 2 step children from that marriage who are both in their mid-late 30's. My step-daughter has blessed us with 4 precious Grandkids who range from 16 down to 9 years old. All of them are in one of the photos which are on this sight. For the past 14 years our kids have been our pets,both dogs and cats. This past year has been really tough for us in that both our shephard Mandy and our favorite cat Spuddy both past away. We really miss both of them dearly. After high school I was fortunate to meet my biological Mother and even better, a half-sister who now resides in Tenessee with her family. In 1990 another half sister contacted both of us from upstate New Hampshire and we gained a total of 3 nephews and 3 nieces from both of these reunions not to mention great Sisters and Brother-in-Laws. My current wife Jane has a very lovely family out in Syracuse,NY. Her Mom is doing pretty well in a nursing home facility out there and she has two fabulous sisters with her younger one having 3 grown up kids and then two grandchildren. For fun and relaxation,we love to attend concerts especially oldies concerts to reminisce about the past and we love to travel. We have been on a handful of cruises since we wed in Nov. 1994 and have taken 2 major vacations to Hawaii and Alaska since 2004. One of those cruises featured oldies pop groups which included Peter Noone and the Herman's Hermits ,Paul Reveere and the Raider's,Leslie Gore(It's My Party)and Chubby Checkers. very season. During the 2007 season we actually traveled to Baltimore (Camden Yards) to see them play the Orioles. We are also avid NFL fans as she cheers for the Buffalo Bills and I have been a longtime fan of the Washington Redskin's. We have traveled a handful of times to Fedex Field in Landover Maryland to watch the Redskin's play including twice against the Bill's. Unfortunately,for me,everytime we have gone to see them play they have lost. Jane has been happy the couple of times that her Bill's have beat the Redskin's but I can always boast because my Redskin's beat her team when it mattered most back for the championship back in 1992
in Superbowl 26. I have also been a loyal Boston Celtic basketball fan for years and it delighted me to no end that they finally won their 17th World Championship back in June,2008 the first since 1986. We travelled over to Boston for the victory parade and celebration after their huge win in game 6 over the Laker's. It was exciting to see the huge turnout of fans who came out to see them. Though our travels have been slowed mainly because of the poor economy as of late, we would very much like to travel someday to Australia, Europe, and perhaps China and then a few places like the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas within this country. I would also like to take all the Grandkids to Disney World ,Universal Studios and SeaWorld before they get too old to take them. Those places are Amajical especially to kids and I know that they would all love it very much. To adults Disney World makes you feel like being a child all over again. Though we certainly don't live extravagantly I would say that we live more modestly like most average middle class working familys. We have been more than blessed with alot better health than some people which enables me to keep on performing the same job that I have been doing for years. I can also still boast that I have practically my entire head of hair that I had years ago when I constantly see people in my age group either bald or going bald. Though it does get gray I have it colored almost every 2-3 months to help me stay younger looking. Though I like to meet and chat with new people, what I enjoy more is to meet up with old friends and aquaintances and rehash old memories from the past. Not only do I find this very stimulating on the brain but also alot of fun. And I'll conclude by saying thank you to anyone who has taken time out to read this entire passage. You get a little better understanding of who I am and what I have been up to since graduating from Troy High School an eternity away. I hope that you didn't get bored!
