Beth's Story
Life
I just bought my first house (when did we all grow up?). The house is in Roseville (not where we were looking for houses, but that's where we found the house we love). The "we" I'm referring to is Bryon Burkel (graduated in 96). We've been together for over two years. Bryon has a wonderful little girl from a previous relationship. Her name is Ashley. She'll be 5 in April and she's wiggled her adorable self into my heart. We have her every weekend and sometimes during the week. She's more excited about the house than I am!!
I have one cat, Ty. He's black and white with a pink nose. He's fat and sassy and acts like a dog.
The car I drive is a red Cutlass Supreme Convertible (used to be my dad's)
I'm teaching 9th grade health and 11th grade medical terminology at a Detroit Charter High School. It can be a challenge but I love it. Somehow I got talked into coaching the ponpom team - even though I've never cheered or done pom, but the girls are awesome.

his past summer to Tina, the girl he's been dating for about 10 years. He is an elementary school phys. ed teacher in L'Anse Creuse.
College
I spent 5 years at Western Michigan University. I had gone through 4 majors before I stuck with health education. I had a blast while I was there, but need the bigger area of Detroit to keep me happy. While at WMU, I was a member of the Health Education Fraternity. I also coached and coordinated Unified Sports (a division of Special Olympics where students at Western participate in the sport with physically or mentally handicapped people in Kalamazoo county).
I loved WMU but I'm glad I'm home. I plan on beginning my Master's degree this coming summer.
Workplace
Currently teaching at HEART Academy: A Detroit Charter High School. I also am a certified personal trainer and worked at Bally Total Fitness for the past two summers.
Military
I could never join the military, but I thank God that there are people who join and fight for our freedom.
