Betty's Story

After graduating from Port Richmond High in 1965 I went into the Women's Army Corps where I completed my tour of duty as a Sargeant. I later went on to graduate from college with a degree in Criminology and Social Rehabilitation and a minor in Business. After that I graduated and became licensed as a cosmetologist. Later I graduated from Real Estate College and received my license in that. I worked in all three professions before retiring. Although this is not my graduation picture, (I don't have hardly any pictures on my computer), I basically look pretty much the same with the exception of some aging. I have often wondered what happened with a lot of the people that I graduated with and although I have found a few people that I graduated with, I have not been able to find many. The sixties was an exciting and wonderful time to live in. The music was great, people were caring and the mood of the country was that of unrest due to the Vietnam war and political excitement. hose goals and dreams. Many people that attended school with me probably would be suprised to see the route my life has taken because I seemed to be somewhat a rebel, although quiet. But, I was just a shy girl with dreams, trying to find my way in life - always trying to fight for and protect those who were afraid to defend themselves. This is a role that has remained with me up until now. I have all the best wishes for my fellow classmates and hope that your dreams (or most of them) have materialized for you. I am a lover of people, traveling, great movies, good foods of all kinds, low-profile, thirsty reader, compassionate and many more things. Would love to hear from anyone who attended Port Richmond during that period of time or otherwise. In 2008 I was blessed to receive an invitation from , The Very Honorable, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden to their first Inauguration, Ball and all festivities that encompassed that event at the White House. It was quite an honor. I will always keep that invitation to remind me, my children and grandchildren of that invitation to be a part of such a great time in history.
