Betty's Story
Life
I first married in 1973 (Sr. in High School) and had my first son at the age of 21. He just turned 33... boy am I getting old... I also have a 25-year old boy and am on my second marriage... to a Japanese. I've been studying Spanish for several years, speak some German and some Japanese. My favorite pasttimes are reading and working out at the gym. My passion for languages never ceases, however the time to dedicate to classes and studying has diminished significantly since I became Staff Engineer at Amtrak.
School
Didn't like school AT ALL. EVER. NOTHING!!! Wish I could change that now. I have developed an insatiable appetite for knowledge and would love to go back and enjoy school, have a little fun and then go on to finish college. I opted out of continuing my education in favor of marriage and a family. Went to a local college for several years while working full-time and raising two boys. As they always say, hindsight is 20/20 and I wish I knew then what I...Expand for more
know now. Fortunately, I love my job. Love working in Manhattan but am desperately homesick for Houston. Until next we meet, hasta luego!!!
College
Have finally earned my A.A.S. degree in Office Technology. I managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout my college career and graduated May '06 as a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Due to my 4.0, I am being sought after by some pretty prominent schools... INCLUDING COLOMBIA UNIVERISTY. I've since been working on my Business Degree at SUNY Old Westbury; however, due to a move to another state, I have had to put off my education for the time being. But, I still love going to school so I'll keep chipping away at it; hoping to return soon.
Workplace
I have a great job at Amtrak. I'm currently the Staff Engineer in the Engineering Department. It's a crazy busy job but I love every second of it. I work with a great group of people and am having the time of my life. Working is sooooooooooo much better than staying home raising kids.
