Betty's Story
Life
After graduation, I went to business college in Omaha. That's where I met Denis (my wonderful husband of 46 years) on a blind date. He later enlisted in the Air Force and we lived in Alaska, Oklahoma, Texas, and California. He also spent a year in Vietnam.
Most of his Air Force years, I worked for the Air Force wherever we were stationed. Our two boys were born in Alaska, our first assignment together, and our daughter was born in Grand Island NE.
His last assignment was at Offutt AFB (Omaha). I decided to get a college degree and attended Bellevue University night classes for seven years, but finally made it (summa cum laude). That opened a whole new job market for me and I was hired by Internal Revenue Service as a Revenue Officer. I spent the last 15 of my 34 civil service years there, retiring in 1999.

ng in 1999. In the meantime, he had taken guitar lessons, a long-time dream of his so that he could accompany himself when he sang. That changed his whole world, and mine, because we started entertaining at nursing homes, senior centers, churches, and for special occasions such as family reunions, weddings, anniversaries, etc., mostly volunteering.
We were "discovered" by a man from Orchard NE who encouraged us to start entertaining in the adult communities (RV parks/snowbird parks, etc.) in the Phoenix area. With the addition of a keyboard, the two of us bring back the songs of the 40s, 50s, 60s and even some in the 90s, along with good, clean humor. We are in our 7th year and loving every minute of it!
Update 2006: I was diagnozed with Lymphoma cancer on June 1st. After taking six chemo treatments, I'm cancer free. What a miracle! But our trek to Arizona has been delayed until January. Denis was a wonderful caregiver.
