Betty's Story
Life
I moved to the Bayfield with my husband (now ex) and our 3 children in 1991. My children are growing up and leaving the nest, my daughter graduates from high school this year (2008). I think this makes me 21 again, no kids, house almost paid for, and no significant other. I have taken care of most of my adult responsibilities, so I'm not sure where I'm going or what I am going to do after she graduates. I am definitely not going to grow up. lol
School
I attended MATC shortly after high school for a year and a half, but dropped out when I had my son Mark. I did end up getting an Associates Degree in Human Services from LCO Community College. In 1992 I received a scholarship from the National Indian Justice Center, and received two years training in Indian Law. I recently received my Bachelor...Expand for more
s Degree from Northland College in Social Justice. I don't thing grad school is in the future.
Workplace
I am currently self employed doing legal advocacy and consulting. The majority of my work is as Guardian ad Litem in child welfare cases, however I do occasionally take traffic and housing cases in the Red Cliff Tribal Court. I have held a variety of positions in the social service field from domestic violence advocacy to family service administration from 1991 till 2002. While I was in Milwaukee, I worked a JC Penney's Catalog Distribution Center for a number of years starting out in the Packing Department and ending in Credit Fraud. I have also worked as a waitress and bartender over the years and still do occasionally. I worked at the Portside Restaurant over the summer and had a great time.
