Betty's Story

Life The picture of me now is was taken Feb 08 in South Lake Tahoe. Out of High School I went straight to Yuba College where I did get my Associates Degree and my main interest was Correctional Counseling. I worked 3 part time jobs in the field and to make that story shorter, I burned out, answered a Veterinary Receptionist Help Wanted ad, and poof, up until this past October of 07, I stayed in the business though moved up to management before taking a pause in this profession. My husband, Jim, stole me away from Northern Ca. I swore I would never live in Southern Ca, but goes to show what love can do to a person. We lived in Anaheim for many moons, but about 10 years ago settled into a town about 50 miles from the beach cities (Corona). My husband has 2 sons, the youngest is 22, married to an "older" woman of 26 who gave me 2 instant grandsons ages 2 & 4. The oldest son is going to be 32 this July (makes me sound very old). My biggest challenge in life right now is this pesky little affliction called Fibromyalgia. I live with it most days just fine. I've probably had it since way back when you guys knew me, but this past October 8, 07, it struck me down big time. Through the grace of God, I found treatment, though the medical community will tell you there reallly is no treatment short of Lyrica for the pain (did not work for me by the way). On Feb 18, 2008 I flew to Reno, transferred to South Lake Tahoe and stayed there for nearly 11 weeks while I was in intense treatment. I left there at an official 83% improvement, but to me felt like 100% and presently I'm just concentrating on healing and not undoing any of the work that was done on me there. Back in H.S. I had longer hair, very dark, and as soon as I left the nest, I cut it off. My hair is lighter and redder now. I had lasik eye surgery twice, so I have no need for glasses anymore, for the time being anyway. It's hard to sum up all of these decades. My interests are not very exciting but pleasing to me anyway. I like karaoke, sewing, crafts, reading, going out to the movies, all sedate things now that I look at it in writing. I am doing very low impact exercising for the time being. I'm getting ready to tackle the art of pain...Expand for more
ting rocks to look like plants and flowers. That is pretty sedate as well, and all I'm really allowed to do for the near future. For the past 18 years, me and my husband have gone to Lake Shasta to meet up with family and friends for a week of water fun. We do this the 1st weekend after the 4th of July. We rent a nice houseboat and what ever anyone wants or doesn't want to do, well, those are the rules. For me, I don't get to play in the water due to my health restrictions, at least this year, but I do know how to shoot great video and I can swim a little and float with the best of them. Update as of 9/08. As much as I miss my career in Veterinary Medicine, I had to follow my Calling to work for the Fibromyalgia Relief Center. I knew pretty much while being treated there in Tahoe, that I wanted to work for them and help others with this affiction find the help I had found. I was finally hired late August of 08, and I love what I do. I get to talk to the sweetest people and as I tell them, I am honored to be a part of their journey to health. It's a lot of bonding & means so much to me to be a part of. Update 11/25/08 - I spent the last week in South Lake Tahoe meeting in person the people I have referred to the Fibro Center. I feel very energized. This was my first trip back since my own treatment so it was a very personal journey. I can pretty much go back as I want because I can work my job here or there, well anywhere. My phone is VOIP, not that I pretend to understand it, but as long as I have email and my phone, I'm in business as they say Update 3/7/09 - Life sure has it's ways of throwing curve balls. I no longer work for the Fibro Relief Center and I have a very bad taste in my mouth over that. Let's just say that when I work, I expect to be paid and I have a claim in with the Labor Board presently. I never thought I'd be in the situation of needed a job when I wanted to work, but times have affected me and it's scary. It takes it's toll on all facets of my life. Heavy sigh, there are worst things I'm sure. I'm keeping a smile on most days and my resume is all over this country by now, ha ha. So, there you have it. Hope to hear from anyone out there who remembers me.
