Betty's Story
After graduation my family moved to Warner Robins, Georgia, just off I-75 in the middle of the State, and I stayed behind and worked the summer months at Brookley AFB. Mary Margaret Miller and her parents so graciously opened up their home to me for over a month until it was time for me to fly to Georgia, join my family in our new home, and get ready to leave for college. I remember how terribly difficult it was emotionally to leave Mobile and precious friends behind. I believe I grieved over many years for the "normalcy" I lost because of having friends (family you choose) have to move with their families all over the USA and realize, except for hope they will come to a reunion, that you may never see them again. Over the years I lost touch with most of them as we entered the years of "growing up and being parents ourselves"! I attended Judson College in Marion, Alabama and then married. I have two grown children who live nearby and I have a six year old granddaughter. What a joyous time it was to attend our WP Davidson 35th reunion, in 2000, and get to actually hug so many friends from my childhood!!!
I was widowed in1998 and after many years of singlehood, I have been dating a former classmate. OOPS! Now I have said that out loud!!! Even though I can be retired, if I want to, I prepare the business taxes for my children's wholesale business and sometimes make deliveries (drive a van) if they need me. I keep my granddaughter sometimes (such fun) and spend time with family as often as we can all get together. I spend a lot of time with Allen Hargrove since his move to middle GA. He is retired but drives a school...Expand for more
bus for the Peach County school system. He is a fellow classmate (1965) so I will let him tell his own story.
My brother, George McGinty, was in the Davidson HS Freshmen (68) class in 1965 and he and wife, Cathy Peak McGinty, live about ten miles from where I live. He graduated from AUBURN in marketing and worked for many years as a rate analyst for the State Dept of Florida in Tallahassee, FL. He is a broker in both realestate and insurance and has owned his own business(Peach State Investors) since 1985. Cathy has been a Registered Nurse over 30 years and is presently retired. George and Cathy have two grown married children and two grandsons ages 5 yrs and 8 months.
I tried Classmates a few years ago when there was little activity among our fellow classmates; however, I am now pleasantly surprised to discover so many enjoying rekindling friendships. I have so enjoyed the several get togethers in between reunions and hope the events continue in the precious years to come. Much life has been gleaned for each of us so there will always be something to share.
As I read down each story I am proud of the accomplishments of each one, both great and small, and have enjoyed the warmth and genuine excitement I feel when we all get together. Most of us have matured (Aahhmmm!) over the years, gotten beyond ourselves, and have finally discovered what really makes our life experiences most rewarding...our friends and family. At 63, I am blessed in all the ways that matter. The only blessing I am missing is your name listed among my friends and the opportunity to learn about your life and family. Soooooo, let me hear from you.
