Betty Raines:  

After graduation I worked for the telephone company in Hawthorne for about 5 months and then married an air force Staff Sargent. We had four kids and I went back to school. I think a brave thing to do at age 28. I did it one more time after we were transferred to Jacksonville, North Carolina and got my Associate's Degree, Medical Secretary at Coastal Carolina Community College. After he retired we moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia where he took a position with the Department of the Navy. It was then he decided he wanted a different lifestyle, including wife. I spent the next 18 years single, but after the death of his mother and my father whom I cared for his last two years Larry Raines and I married. I retired from Eastern Virginia Medical School where I had been an Admin. Secretary in December 2000. Eight months later I was offered a position at Tidewater Community College part-time. I thoroughly enjoy my work, and as my husband is retired I tell folks 24/7 at home with honeybunch is the pits. We have been very lucky. We've been to Hawaii, taken a Caribbean Cruise and have some kids and grandkids not too far away.
