Betty's Story

Got married after high school, divorced soon after. Just grew apart, no ill feelings. Next guy I dated got me pregnant and we gave marriage a go. We had two more kids. It lasted 9 years, but you know how things go. He's remarried now and I get along well with his new wife and still have contact with his family. I've been going to school on and off since I graduated high school. I have a degree in Computer Science and I'm currently studying for another degree in IT Security and Networking. I'm also studying for several different certifications. I'll probably be in and out of school the rest of my life. Some people know that I contracted Ulcerative Colitis my sophmore year of high school. I've been in and out of the hospital since then and have had 6 surgeries, including one to remove my colon. Shortly after that I contracted Crohn's Disease and I've been dealing with that now. My immune system attacks my digestive system. I'm okay with it, it's all I know. I've got 3 awesome, sometimes irritating, kids. A daughter and 2 sons. My daughter is almost a carbon copy of me and both the boys play hockey. We are a huge hockey family. My older son is going into his 11th year and he started out with me as his coach. I played until I broke my ankle. Now I'm a spectator. My kids are...Expand for more
my whole family. My parents died in 2006 within 3 months of each other. My dad went first and I suspect my mom was just jealous. Shortly after that I must've grown 3 heads and became some kind of serial killer, because I ceased to hear from any of my 3 brothers. Oh, well, everyone has their reasons, I guess. When I'm not studying, or sitting in a hockey rink, or out drinking with my boyfriend, I'm working full time as a Computer Technician at the administrative offices of one of the largest school districts in the state. I support everything from hardware to software and couldn't imagine doing anything else. I've been through, and I've put others through, a lot of crap in my life. I remember being painfully poor. I remember deciding being a burnout was more important than being a straight-A student. I remember spending a lot of time in the hospital. But I honestly think all of that has made me the best person that I can be and I wouldn't have changed anything. I also had some pretty damn good times and meet some fantastic people. I hope everyone is well and enjoying their lives. I'm sorry to anyone I may have hurt and I don't hold any grudges for anything myself. And if you've read my story to the end, wow, you need to get out more. No, seriously, thanks and take care.
