Beverly's Story

I'm married for nearly 60 years to my husband Bob and we have 4 children ( 1 daughter is dead and waiting for us on the other side.) After my husband finished his 4 years in the USAF we moved to Sacramento where he worked in construction for OE Local #3.From there, we moved to San Jose where with a few short term moves we stayed until he retired in 1995. In 1996 we sold our home and moved to Montana. In 1970 I started back to school at SJCC and very shortly there after we discovered I was indeed pregnant for the 4th time and I decided to finish the semester I was in regardless. Boy, did I push it close; I took my last final and went to the Dr. and never made it home; my daughter was born that evening. After that I had to chose between my children and my desire for a profession and I choose my children. When my daughter was 5 and in school I went to work and started a business at the same time. I became a nationally certified ceramic teacher and opened a shop in our home (my husband built a large shop behind our house) and I worked as a engineering coordinator in electronics for a microwave company and did that for 24 years. But, it seems I didn't have enough to do so we also became commercial salmon fishermen on the week-ends. There was a year+ that we moved to Minnesota to a grade A dairy farm. Bob and I loved it but our daughter-in-law hated it and rather than separate our family we sold out and moved back to California. Land of Lakes came to talk to us and told us they never thought anybody could turn that farm into a profit making business and ask us to change our minds and stay on the farm. Of course, we didn't, they weren't separating me from my grandson. In 2000 my husband and I were sealed for time and eternity in the Spokane LDS temple on April 4, our 42 anniversary. That same year in October, the day before hunting season, Bob had a double Aorta aneurysm and we were told outside the operating room door that we needed to say our goodbyes as nobody had ever survived in that hospital. That was the hardest day of our marriage. About 10 or 11 hours later the surgeon came out and told me that we then had a living body and not a corpse but that they would amputate both legs within the next 24 hours. I was totally blown away at that point. Our church president and wonderful missionaries gave him a 3rd blessing at that point. The Dr. came in about 2 hours later and said that his legs were turning pink again and it looked like they would not have to remove them. They said he would be in the hospital for 5-6 months, he was home in 3 weeks. The Dr. is the same Dr. who did my breast surgery. Bob is doing fairly well now; he has diabetes and has put on a lot of weight but is slowly starting to lose it. He has been through a lot. We own 30+ acres here and have worked hard to develop this into a small ranch. We pretty much raised our oldest grandson and our 2n...Expand for more
d granddaughter. Life has been good to us and even though I have 2 incurable cancers I wouldn't change things. I firmly believe that life is a learning experience and helps us grow. Now, I love to sew and am considered very expertise in the field, I enjoy gardening, cooking and most of all spoiling my grandchildren (8) and my G-G-children(7). I love walking on the beach and in fresh snow. I often look at my yearbooks from THS and wonder what life has given my former classmates. Bob said it would be a race to see which of us will go home first. We have our ups and downs but that's part of marriage. My only dream is to go to Martha Pullen's school of Art Fashion but we'll have to wait and see what the future holds. At this point,we would like to sell but are waiting for the market to come back before we relist. We hope to go some where between Fallen, NV and Tracy, CA. I have to be near medical as I have to have chemo from time to time to keep my cancer from spreading so fast. Our son is a service manager in the bay area for an auto dealer, our older daughter is an 8th grade teacher near Fallen, NV and our youngest daughter is an RN at a hospital in Pleasenton. I have in the past couple of years made an effort to apologize to those I may have offended as it is important to me personally.I have tried so hard to make life better for those around me. We have some wonderful memories and I hope everyone has great memories. I like to scrapbook and still have pictures from school days to work up. The grandchildren always want to know "who's that" so hopefully I will get it all done so they can know and imagine what our school days were like. I have some funny stories that I will try to put on here at a later date. We were all so lucky to have live in the time when we not only saw but lived in a very changing world. We swam in canals, rode bikes to town, roller skated to school, and most of all saw a world change. It was an era when children could play on the street or in the park without the fear of kidnapping and sexual idiots attacking them. turlock was a good place to grow up. On November 2, 2016 the drs. at Banner Hospital here in Fallon amputated my right leg. I spent over 3 months in the hospitals between Fallon, Carson CITY and Reno. I am walking again and am scheduled to start chemo again on January 12, 2018. We will celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary on April 4, 2018. We are supposed to go to Hawaii for our granddaughters wedding about the same time. Life has been good to us and we are very grateful. We sold our home in Montana in November of 2014 and bought a home in Fallon, NV. We still have 23 acres in Montana. We are putting 20 acres up for sale in a month or so.. Montana is wonderful but at our age we don't shovel snow very well. We are keeping the house on the 3 acres that I inherited as an income property and a second home for the summers.
