Beverly Luedecking:

CLASS OF 1964
Waterford, MI

Beverly's Story

I worked for S.W.Frankford Associates until I got married on Oct. 11, 1965. Then 14 months and 1 day later I got a divorce Dec. 12, 1966. I left Michigan to get away from it all. I ended up in Missouri working as a waitress in the restaurant next to a bus station. The bus went to the Army base Fort Leonard Wood. I met and fell in love with Lue and we were married Feb. 3, 1967 in Waynesville, Missouri. Lue was stationed there at the time. We moved to Mich. after his discharge in Nov. 1967. He served 6 years in the Army as a Engineer and floating bridge instructor. His mom lived in Richland on a farm, and his dad lived in Kalamazoo. He drove for Associated Truck Lines. We stayed in Richland til 1971 then moved to Florida. Our son Jim was born 1972 in Orlando, while Lue was making the paint for Disney World. Lue's step dad died in 1973, we came back for the funeral ended up staying here. Jobs were hard to find on the west side of the State at that time so we moved to Oxford. There we managed a horse ranch and riding stable for 2 years. We had riders from all over including Canada come there to ride 320 acres and 100 head of horses. When I got pregnant with our second son the doctor advised me it was a choice between our son and the horses so we would have to leave the ranch and move. Lue got a job with Chrysler, we moved to Detroit. While Lue was working for Chrysler Corp. we had 3 more children, 1 boy and 2 girls, Larry 1974, Sandy 1976, and Jerri 1977 she was named after the guy who notified me of Lue's motorcycle accident on his way to work he had right of way and a lady made a left in front of him at the intersection where there was a gas station on each corner and plenty of witnesses in Detroit. When Lue recovered from his motorcycle accident we moved to Allegan in 1978 and have been here ever since. I worked at the elementary school for 8 years, as playground and lunchroom supervisor, also teachers aide. I opened the Allegan branch of MTS, also looked over the relocation and remodeling of its current building in Allegan, was there for 8 years til it changed owners. I did data entry and secretarial work for PCI for 3 yrs, until they downsized, then I was at Little Caesars both the Allegan and Plainwell stores for 8 yrs while taking care of four of our grand kids. When I received my certificate to become a manager of any Little Caesars store I left, with the option to come back if I didn't like the convenience store. I was the manager for 4 and a half years before I retired in August of 2008 after my husbands 2nd motorcycle accident. Our son Jim was killed in a car accident Jan. 1993, 14 months later Mar. 27,1994 our house burned, we lost everything but everyone survi...Expand for more
ved. We have 10 wonderful grandchildren from 6 to 24. Our great grandson died 5 weeks after he was born, on Nov. 28th, 2007, our second great grandchild died before birth in July 2009. We have one great granddaughter born Oct 21, 2009 and one great grandson due in a few months. Lue was planning to retire in Jan. 2009. He told his fellow workers he wanted to spend more time with me and travel. Lue and I were married 5 months short of 42 years. Lue had a motorcycle accident Aug 27, 2008 on his way out to the lake from our daughters house. He died less than 24 hours later from his injuries. We had enjoyed almost 42 years of riding horses, motorcycle rides, shows, meets, poker runs & charity rides. Also, hunting, fishing, boating, camping, watching the sunset, campfires, movies or TV. Sitting and listening to music or just having family, friends or both come over. We'd eat, talk, tell jokes, stories, talk about the good ole days, or just goof off. What ever it was, we had fun. We loved having our grand kids come and stay at the lake in the summer. They enjoy the outdoors and fishing, when they weren't swimming, boating or playing games, they were helping pa pa or grandpa chop or carry wood and build campfires. Sit and look at the lake and watch the boats, skiers and fishermen. All the kids loved it. We have a lot of great friends out there. They have become our 2nd family and I know they'll help me through this first summer without Lue and all the other summers because that's what good people they are. Lue was looking forward to coming to the reunion with me this year. We've either been working or something has kept us from attending before. I know you would have enjoyed not only meeting him but also talking to him. He was a good man and is extremely missed. Hope to see you at the 45th reunion of the class of '64' on Sept. 11, 2009. Update massive surgery on right shoulder, Mar. 12, 2009 so far over 6 months of therapy, brace on left arm because of pinched nerve, after fall this past Jan 30th, 2009. Hope to see you at the reunion in Sept. 2009. Update, June 2009 a tornado decided to take out our trailer at the lake and our 28 foot pontoon boat so lost almost everything out there need a different trailer ours is totaled. Update braces didn't help left arm, had surgery last week Sept 1st so have to keep arm up on ice and go to the doctors to get stitches out after the reunion. So no reunion for me again. Someday I'll make it, by then I hope my son has taught me how to play real golf. I play Wii golf starting to get the hang of it. Hope everyone has a great time and hope to see you at the next reunion. Have a safe trip to and from the reunion, wishing you all safe Holidays.
