Beverly's Story
If you remember me, it would be as a very, very shy, academic student. Fortunately, I have overcome my shyness, and, perhaps less fortunately, I am no longer so academic as I once was. I graduated from Palatine High School in 1959, went to Grinnell College in Iowa for my B.A. in history (thanks to Mr. Court), and to The University of Rochester for an M.A. in American History (thanks to Professor Alan Jones).
After college and graduate school, I lived in Chicago and worked for the publishing company Scott Foresman. I married my first husband, George Drick, in 1969. We lived in Cambridge, MA for a year and then moved to Hawaii for two years. I went to the University of Hawaii for an MLS (Masters of Library Science). I was a librarian in Hawaii in a middle school for a year; that experience cured me of my plan to become a children's librarian!

After returning to the mainland, I was a librarian at the Chicago Public Library, Phoenix College in Phoenix, AZ, and, for many years, at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, IL.
I was divorced from my first husband in 1989. I married Ron Offen--a poet, the editor of a poetry magazine, and the love of my life--in 2003. Ron died in 2009. I did not have children, but I now have four adult step-children; they are a happy addition to my life.
About ten years ago, I discovered the genre of creative nonfiction. I completed the U. of Chicago Graham School Certificate program in Creative Writing in 2013 and been published in a number of small literary journals. I'm thinking of creating a website. In the meantime, you may find links to a few of my publications by Googling my name.
Would love to hear from anyone who remembers me.
Cheers, Beverly
