Beverly's Story
I retired from the Postal Service about six years ago now, on disability due to asthma, and have been a political activist since then, though I've spent half my years in Colorado nursing my mother or my sister. Frequent trips to Huntsville have allowed me to see my son and his girls, and to enjoy dinners with some good Butler friends.
I just spent 3 months in Ft Collins, CO, where I nursed my sister, Chris, for the last few weeks of her life. She passed away on March 7. It was my great privilege to write and deliver the eulogy at her service on March 14. Because she was Mom's caretaker, new arrangements for Mom (91) had to be made, and I am it! I have moved her to temporary assisted living in Madison, where my wonderful daughter-in-law is helping take care of her until I can sell, pack or donate all the belongin...Expand for more
gs I do not wish to move, and then close on my house here in Missouri. I will be moving then to the Madison/Huntsville area and making a home for Mom and me (and Shortcake, my Shih Tzu). All the things they say you should never do after a major loss, I am doing.....getting a divorce after 21 years (been separated for 7), selling a house, moving a long distance....but it can't be helped.
I am so fortunate to have good Butler friends there in Huntsville, and I will be near my darling little granddaughters, my son and his wife..and boy, did I hit the jackpot with her! Despite much grief that I've had to work through, I have much to look forward to as well, and I am a very blessed woman.
Two of my favorite quotes: "I may be only one person, but still I can do something."
"Be the change you want to see in this world."
