Bill's Story

It has been a while since I was Marlboro, I think it was in 1992. I spent a few days there before I moved out here to Arizona. As some of you know I made it to our 25th reunion. I really enjoyed myself that night. I was in the Navy for 9 years, five of which I was on a flight crew, looking for submarines. I got out and worked as a consultant to the Navy for 14 years. I left that job in 1993 and moved out here to Arizona. I now build computers. In March of 2010 I retired. I decided that I had worked long enough, and it was time to quit using alarm clocks and being concerned about time. I have not worn a watch since my last day of work. I have been staying busy by helping people restore their computers back to normal operation, and also being involved in the local political scene, to the extent of being a write-in candidate for the state legislature. I did not get past the primary, but I did get some votes. I was elected as a precinct committeeman in 2010. I have been the vice-chairman of the Maricopa County Libertarian party since 2011. I ran for city council in Phoenix in 2011 and did fairly well, getting over 15% of the vote, considering I spent about $450 compared to a total of $35,000 that my opponents spent. It was interesting and a lot of work. It took almost 3 months to get enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. It required going door to door. This was a valuable learning experience, and I may run for the state legislature in 2014 here in Arizona. I am currently living with my dog, Ollie, still help people with their computers, and go to the gym a few times a week to get some exercise. I am also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. I regularly help with various charitable fund raisers to stay busy. I spent a couple of days in Marlboro in August of 2013. There have been a lot of changes since I was last there in 1992. The House of Pizza was still there. The Wreck Lounge underwent some renovat...Expand for more
ion so required a name change. The food was pretty good. Well, here it is January 2018. I am still alive in Glendale, Arizona. That was in looking doubtful back in October 2017, when I had developed a big blood clot in my lungs. I spent 40 days in the hospital: 22 in ICU and 18 in acute rehab rebuilding my strength. At any rate I am home again, leading my normal life. I see a lady friend once or twice a week, who was a big help the first week I was out of rehab. It is now June of 2018. I am still volunteering with the Fraternal Oder of Eagles, mostly by balancing the checkbooks and running to the bank every week.. I do step up and help with other fund raising events also. I go and work out at a gym once or twice a week, watch NASCAR on Sundays, and visit doctors. It seems they don't want to let go of me. I guess they are making up for all the years I avoided them. April 2021: It seems I don't do very much updating, but things have not changed much. I am still helping to keep the medical profession viable. I watch NASCAR on weekends with my lady friend, Chrissy. I stay busy volunteering at my local Eagles Aerie and also the VFW. I still read a lot and spend a few hours every evening watching Amazon, Netflix, or Hulu. I have watched all of the "Doctor Who" episodes available.. A.few of the older ones are missing or damaged. Streaming is great! August 2021: i am doing my part to keep the medical industry healthy. I just had my second cataract surgery. Both eyes are done and I can see clearly now without glasses as long as I am not trying to read! I started wearing glasses full time way back in the 7th grade, so this is a major change for me. Sunglasses are strongly recommended out here in the Valley of the Sun, Those I can buy off a rack almost anywhere. I bought a new car a couple of months ago. It is a 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid. My gas bill has dropped, and surprisingly so has my insurance bill.
