Bill's Story
After graduating in 1965, by the skin of my teeth, by the wy, I spent three years inthe Army. Returned from VN in December 1968. I then wasted 4 years, trying to fit my square peg self into the round hole world. Not a good fit. Marriage, divorce, work, cruisin around, alcohol, recreational substitutes, finally decided to finish something I started and spent the next 21 years touring the world courtesy of Uncle Sam. e Union Pacific Railroad. Retired in 2010 at age 63, after finally reading the retirement requirements of my employer. I could make just as much money with my railroad retirement and military retirement as I could working full time. I consider myself a very lucky man, as I was blessed with a fantastic wife, three daughters, and seven grandchildren. I currently live in Manhattan, KS, one of the best kept secrets for retirees. Wide open outdoors, friendly people, great taxes, and relatively low cost of living. Manhattan is a university town (Kansas State University), so it has quite a diverse population and great collegiate sports.
