Bill's Story

The survey doesn't begin to tell the story. I graduated from college with a degree in Geology. I even did a year and a half of graduate work in the same field, concentrating on micro-paleontology, as a graduate assistant. I went through a divorce and ended up working several jobs to make ends meet and was unable to complete my masters degree. I got tired of tending bar in the evenings and working the hoot-owl shift at Columbia Records and joined the Navy. I went to Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI and was commissioned an Ensign on April 1st, 1977 (April fools day, hmmmm..) I was stationed in San Diego then Longbeach California. I was on the USS Mobile LKA -115 and started as Electrical Officer, became the Communications Officer and eventually became the Operations Officer (Ops Boss) before getting out the day Ronald Reagan got shot at the end of March 1981. I did a couple west-pac deployments and we were hauling marines off the Arabian Coast during the Iranian hostage crisis back in 1980. I visited many great ports including that famos liberty port in the Phillipines - Subic Bay (I made many missions over shi..t river), Perth Australia, Pusan Korea, Phattia Beach, Thailand, Singapore, Ilo Ilo City, Mombassa, Kenya and many other ports of call. Before leaving the Navy I interviewed around and accepted a position at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS. It is now part of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding. I am the Integrated Logistics Support Manager on the DDG 1000 program. I have done extensive travelling for the company and was once a Platinum Medallion Member of the Delta Frequent Flyer program. hat I used to do, than I currently do. I gave up motorcycling (both street and dirt), windsurfing, bowling, hiking and making home brew. I still play pool and drink beer (I am an Ale man, but drink other spirits as well). I am a great cook and love hot & spicy food (e.g. using Dave's Insanity sauce and the like). I never met a 24 ounce Porterhouse Steak that I didn't like. I even enter Taste of Home Recipie contests (haven't won anything yet) even though I seldomly use recipies, I wing it. I have grown fond of Folk Music (Irish / English in particular). Not the "Danny Boy" stuff but the "Whiskey in a Jar" kinda music. I love to go to a good Irish Pub, listen to the music and have a Guiness or Black & Tan or tow (or three or four). I have been married to my wife Jean (an elementary school teacher) for 25 years. We live in Ocean Springs, MS (Katrina Alley). She is dragging me on vacation this summer to Las Vegas (who but a woman would want to go to Las Vegas in the summer). At least the casinos and bars will be air conditioned. Over 3 years ago I got myself a 2004 Mazdaspeed MX5 - 6 speed turbo and love the car. It si like driving a big go-cart. I have become a ragtop man. If the temperture is above 45 and it isn't raining, my top is down. Politically I consider myself an independent, but nobody will ever confuse me with a bleeding heart liberal. I find it embarrassing that the state I came from elected Hillary Clinton to their Senete. After a political discussion over a few drinks my normal ending statement is "when I am elected dictator, we will fix this sh...t". Hope this provides some insight into the person I have evolved into.
