Bill's Story
I always wanted to be a professional football player when I grew up but I was pretty small in HS (that has changed). I am now at a good playing weight but I got too old for football and now find my self on the golf course 2-3 days a week.
I tried to go to college for a few years after high school but classes got in the way of beer and girls and I was asked to join a large fraternity, the U.S. Army, in 1966. I was very fortunate in being selected to become a member of the 3rd Infantry, the "Old Guard" at Fort Meyer, VA and served as a squad leader and firing party member for two years.
I returned to Greeley in 1969, worked at Gentry's Shoes and commuted to school at CSU for a year and a half. I became a teacher (belive it or not) and taught Marketing in Colorado Springs from 1971-2000. I completed a Masters in Education and am ABD from Virginia Tech's doctorial program in Education. Along the way I married and we had a daughter,...Expand for more
Elizabeth and then got divorced.
I taught for 28 years, worked for the state department of education, published a little and then retired. After retirement I went to work for my daughter, Elizabeth in the Real Estate Title business, for a couple of years, then decided that golf was more fun.
In the early 70's my dad and I had an opportunity to make wine together and in doing so aided Joe Phelps of Phelps Construction in making his first wine, in Greeley. Since that time Joe has become a wine maker in California with his Josheph Phelps Winery and my taste for wine also has grown (not in volume but quality). I have done a little traveling with my significant other and we both have become wine afficinados (wine snobs, more like it) and have traveled the California coast sampling the many wineries in the state. Now we travel a little, enjoy the benefits of retirement and share stories of vintages with our friends and family.
