Bill's Story
After graduating from Shawnee High School, I served three years in the United States Army Security Agency and in October 1964, I received an honorable discharge in Oakland, California after serving 2.5 years in the Far East.
On November 1, 1964, I started my railroad career in San Francisco, California as a messenger for the Southern Pacific Transportation Company (SP). At the time of the merger between SP and the Union Pacific Railroad Company (UP) on September 11, 1996, I held the title of Managing Director, Contracts and Joint Facilities. I subsequently retired from the UP on August 31, 1999 as Director, Joint Facilities.
I met my wife Diane on a blind date on March 1, 1965 and we were married in San Francisco on July 10, 1965. Diane worked for SP for thirty ...Expand for more
years and retired as Manager, Investigations in the General Claims Department. We have one daughter whose name is Addy.
While at SP, I earned undergraduate degrees in Management and Ethnic Studies at Sonoma State University. Additionally, I am a graduate of Golden Gate University's Executive Master of Business Administration program.
Since my retirement from the UP, I have consulted for the railroad industries in the United States of America and the United Mexican States. During this time, I also was Executive Director of the Nevada CASA Association for five years.
Diane and I live most of the year in Reno, Nevada and spend the remainder in Las Vegas, Nevada. I am a voracious reader and am a member of several railroad historical societies in the United States.
