Bill's Story
I am remarried with two children, Jacklyn 24 and Kathryn 21. Along with my wife Janie, they are the lights in my life.
My family moved away from the Baltimore area in May of 1964 so I was unable to attend graduation ceremonies at Kenwood. My sister Pam was a '62 graduate of Kenwood. I remain close to her and her family and visit them as often as possible in Chicago. In later years Pam has developed MS and is now retired. Her older daughter is married and lives and works in the Chicago Area. Her younger daughter is married and lives and works in the Phoenix Area. She's married and has four children.
I started college at Cameron State JC in Lawton, Oklahoma, my step-father was employed by Martin Baltimore and had been transferred to Fort Sill to write missile checkout guides. In May of 1965 my step-father died and I moved home with my mother and transferred to Youngstown State to finish my degree. During that time, I worked my way through college with various jobs at McDonalds, Youngstown Sheet and Tube, Siamac's Furniture, and Youngstown City Parks and Recreation. In the Fall of 1965 I transferred to Youngstown State University and joined a fraternity in 1966 as a Junior. Our chapter TKE chapter pretty much ran campus life during our time there. Unfortunately the Greek system went into an overall decline after our class left ('68) and the fraternity house as beautiful as it was, burned down years later.
During my Sophomore year in college I developed my first real crush. I thought I was madly in love with her. She attended Ohio State and I would visit her a weekend or two each month. But distance took it's toll and I inevitably got my "Dear John" letter. She met a guy a on a weekend retreat, they started dating and were married right after graduation. Everything works out for the best. She was a devout Catholic and I was not convinced that I wanted to be one.
Ironies of ironies, my first teaching job was at a Catholic school where the principal, Sr. Noreen, was so convinced that I was a model Catholic that she wanted me to teach religion. I had to remind her that I wasn't Catholic. After college I pursued a career in teaching and later education sales. Notable companies I worked for were Apple and Gateway Computer. I am currently EVP of Sales and Marketing for Lesson Planet. We are an Internet company that delivers instructional resources to teachers.

d have lived here for the past 35 years. Most days are spent at our headquarters and I travel 1-2 times a quarter for work. i spend most weekends at home in some activity with our girls or playing tennis. My tennis career started late. I began playing in my mid 20's and by 36 I was playing and winning tournaments at the 4.0 and 4.5 levels. Now I just play recreationally and still love it. Our pets include 3 rescue Aussies (Buddy, Teddy and Daisy).
People I remember most at Kenwood are Henry Baker, Dave Sauer, Charles Messenger, John Startt, Charlie Jones, Gerry Adams, Dave Patrick and Don Griffiin. The Kenwood faculty members I remember most are James Pallace, Mr Surplus, Mr Garrity, Mrs Swanson and Baxter Berryhill. I recently exchanged emails and letters with Jim Pallace just to catch up with him. I enjoyed the classes I had with him so much that in my early career I taught history. My picture in the "Then" slot is from Edgewater HS in Orlando which I found after many years of searching.
I always knew I would be in education in some way and have loved helping people grow and learn but never thought I would be so involved in sales. As it turns out sales is just a way to help people solve their biggest problems. If you approach it that way you will be successful. My first paying job was when I was 15 as a tile mechanics helper for National Floors and Ceilings in Baltimore where I earned $1.25 an hour.
I have had the opportunity to live in many places, NY (Valley Stream), Florida (Tampa, St Petersburg, Orlando, Miami), Ohio (Youngstown, Steubenville, Girard, Warren, Stow, Hudson), Oklahoma (Lawton), California (Cypress, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Fairfield, Fresno, Yosemite Lakes, Danville, Berkeley, Escondido, Sacramento, San Marcos). I've never had a problem in adjusting or changing where I live. I'm able to make friends easily and I always stay in touch with my old friends.
My work has taken me to 30 different states during the past 47 years but my favorite place to vacation is at home now.
My biggest surprise in life has been in becoming a father. I didn't realize how much it would change me (help me) to become a better person. My family keeps me from taking things too seriously and gives me pleasure i cannot explain in words, only feelings. My wife says I was born to be a dad. I didn't see that but I do now. I'm 65 now and never thought I'd live this long so everyday is a bonus.
