Hayes & Hayes Enterprises, Elmhurst, March 1997. I started with a gas station in 1965. Thru the years expanded into snow plowing, towing, body shop and ending with a classic car restoration shop. I married Gerianne Wagner of Elmhurst in 1975. We have seven children, eighteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many sons and daughters inlaw. I retired in Sept.1999. The following day while waiting at a stop light I was hit from behind. 40 MPH can do a lot of damage to a Goldwing motorcycle.The bike was totaled and I was repaired. Broken ankle, detached retina, severed bicept, rotators in both shoulders and brain bruising. It took eight years for all of the surgeries and rehab. During that time I picked up a staph infection caused by surgery to repair a torn achilles tendon. After that ordeal, while in rehab for one of my shoulder surgeries the physical therapist severed my rotators, another year down the drain! It took eighteen months of cognitive therapy to learn to read and write again. I have made a complete recovery and couldn't be happier. The woman that hit me didn't see me or the stop light.
