Bill's Story

Life My school years in Naples began in the fall of 1960 just in time for Hurricane Donna. My Junior and Senior High years in Naples were some of the best times of my life. My marriage to Pat Sentell ended in 1972 but Pat gave me three wonderfull children; Kimberly, Michael, and Andrea who all now live in rural Tennesee southwest of Knoxville. Barbara Kress and I began dating in 1974 and were married on Christmas Eve 1976. Barbara was working as a Flight Attendant for United Airlines and continued in that position until her retirement in 1996 after 30 years. After completing tech school in Jacksonville I began my career with Wilson Miller in Naples and later moved to Inter-County Telephone. Through many corporate name changes it became United Telephone and then Sprint Corp. I worked for Sprint for 33 years starting as a linesman, draftsman, Engineer and Sr Engineer in Ft Myers and Naples. I moved to Punta Gorda in 1978 assuming the position of District Engineering Manager for Charlotte, Desoto and Hendry Counties. I transfered to the Orlando area in 1989 continuing with Sprint in their long rang planning group. I resigned from Sprint in 1998 to pursue other adventures. Barbara and I sold our homes in Naples and Orlando in 1997 and bought our third and very large motorhome intending to see the USA. I was still employed by Sprint so we parked the Motorhome in Winter Garden. My son had recently obtained his private pilot liscense and after several enjoyable flights with him both in Tenn. and in Fla. I became interested in flying. I began flying lessons at Orlando Country Airport in Plymouth (northwest of Orlando). Over the next year and a half I earned my private pilots liscense my multi-engine rating and my instrument rating. During that period I purhased and sold several aircraft keeping a Piper Twin Comanche. After finishing my flight training we began our motorhome travels but because all of my family was still in Naples I realize...Expand for more
d we needed a "Home Base" to return to in Fla. While surfing the net I discovered that Venice had an airport a block off the beach and only 2 miles from downtown. We made a Friday afternoon drive to Venice and found a beautiful small town with wery little traffic, and an airport to hangar the Comanche. We looked at everything that became available for the next several months and found a beach front apartment we could afford and made an offer. Thirty days later we were the new owners of "The Towers", Unit 109 at 1150 Tarpon Center Drive on Venice Beach. We continued our motorhome travels for several more years until I got hooked into serving on our Board of Directors which became a near full time job. We still have the motorhome but have not been on the road since 2004. I am no longer serving on the board here and make frequent trips to Tennesee to spend time with my children and six grand children. All three of my children are working parents. Daughter Kim is working at Rubbermaid and her son Landon who graduated from HS in 2005 is living at home and is working at Denso(auto parts manufacturer) with his father. Son Michael is working in the nuclear industry in Oak Ridge and is retired from the Air National Guard. Mike has three Children. Adam 23 is working as a Network Administrator at Breed Technlogies and is also living at home. Morgan 18 is a Junior in HS and works part time at Walmart. Mikes youngest Ryan is seven and does whatever seven year olds do He plays 3rd base in Little League and his team achieved 3rd place in the play offs for 2007 My youngest, Andrea has a daughter Miranda age 13 (Cheerleader and Fast Pitch Champion 2006) and son Camden age 9 (Basketball). Andrea is an administrative RN at a major Hospital in Knoxville and has returned to college with a goal of becoming a veterinarian. Barbara and I are enjoying our life and trying to keep up. More news as it happens! Military I did not serve in our military.
