Bill's Story
Life
I now live in San Antonio. I have been a radiologic technologist for over 20 years and worked for an Orthopedic Surgeon. I left Norwalk High to join the Air Force along with Bob Dickerman, John Shalton and others (class of 65). I retired from the Texas Air National Guard in 1998.
I have also recently retired from full time employment and enjoying the extra days off relaxing with my family, Elaine (Stagner, class of 66 NHS) and Pam (her daughter), and riding the Texas Hill Country every chance I get. Life is Good!
School
My family were "wanderers". I went to about twenty different schools in three states. Included would be Artesia High School my freshman year, Bellflower High for my sophomore and junior year, and Norwalk High for my senior year. Though my grade point average was nothing to be proud of, I believe I had great teachers, and learned much more than the grades reflected.
College
I attended St. Philips College in San Antonio for only one semester and a summer session in 1986. I had Military experience in my subject and was placed at an advanced level....Expand for more
I was awarded the AAS degree in Radiologic Technology, and qualified to take, and passed the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in July 1986.
Workplace
A day after graduation from High School I was on my way to Lackland AFB to start four years with the USAF. I was trained as a radio repairman and served until 1969. From 1969 until 1981 I had a variety of jobs in several cities. In 1981 upon getting laid off from a job as a warehouseman in Dallas, I enlisted in the Air Force Reserve and shortly after transferred to the Texas Air National Guard in San Antonio. The Reserve/Guard trained me in Radiology. I worked as an Xray Tech since 1986. Retired in March 2010.
Military
I enlisted in the Air Force the day after my graduation in 1965. I was trained in Communications Equipment Repair (radio repair) and served in Mississipi, Arizona, Thailand and Viet nam. I left the active duty in 1969 and had a thirteen year break in service. I then enlisted in the Air Force Reserve in 1981 and later transferred to the Texas Air National Guard. I retired as an E7 in 1998.
