Bill's Story

I left Fairley HS late in my sophomore year, 1972, because my family moved to Rochelle, Illinois. I finished HS there and went to Eastern Illinois University where I graduated in 1978 with a BS in Chemistry. I then went on to Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, and finished my PhD in Physical Chemistry. That was great because I had a lot of fun playing basketball at IU and in 1981 the Hoosiers won the NCAA championship. I also met my wife Martie while there! I went directly from IU to work at The Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, Michigan and we have been in this community ever since. Martie and I have two great kids, Eric and Chris, both of whom ...Expand for more
graduated from the University of Michigan. I do not play basketball or tennis anymore, but do a lot of yard work and bicycle a lot to keep in shape. Last year a friend and I rode all the way from Kalamazoo to South Haven, on Lake Michigan, in an afternoon, about 37 miles. I sometimes wonder what in the world happened to my old friends at Fairley HS in Whitehaven (now Memphis) TN. If anyone can tell me what went on from 1972 to 1974 and beyond, I'd be interested to hear their perspectives. People that I've known a long time tell me that I have not changed much over the years. I still laugh at my own little jokes, which shold not surprise anyone.
