Bill's Story

Life Let's see, what have I done and where have I been? Moved to LA in '66, missed graduating from the first class at Rio. Graduated from Glendale High, did a lot of manual labor, married my first wife in '71, my son Jon was born in '72 (a great day, indeed); separated from my wife in '75 and took my son to... Kansas City: owned (with my Dad) a farm supply store (probably the best job I ever had) until it was hit by a tornado in '79, sold insurance until I got in a brawl with the regional manager, so in '85 I got a job selling personal computers and managing computer stores. Left that to sell relational databases, which worked out pretty well, and in 1994 transferred to... Dallas: not a bad gig, all in all. Made a mistake and listened to a recruiter, going to work for a factory automation software company that went belly up 2 years later (not my fault, honest!), so I went back to work for the RDBMS company as a Marketing Di...Expand for more
rector, but the company almost folded, spun off a division, and promised to let me go unless I became the Global Account Manager for the WorldCom account. So in 2001, we moved to... Monument, CO: You can see where this is heading, because WorldCom went bankrupt about 3 months after I starting working with them (not my fault, honest!). Not too long after that, IBM bought the company I worked for, took the technology, and let most of the sales people go. In 2003, we decided to semi-retire to the farm I'd bought in... Oklahoma: I figured I'd raise enough cattle to get by, but it turns out I only had about half the land I needed to raise enough cows, so after a year or two I unretired and here we are... Military A month after my son was born in 1972, I actually got a draft notice. A week before I was to report for induction, I got a postponement, and a few months later I got a cancellation. To this day, I have no idea why.
