Bill's Story
Life
I graduated from Kansas State University in 1973 with a degree in Architecture. Due to a very low draft number, I completed flight school training at NAS Pensacola that year. I then completed training at NAS Whidbey Island and was ordered to the USS Ranger where I was a Bombadier/Navigator in and A-6 Intruder assigned to then Air Wing 30. In 1975, after the end of the Viet Nam war, I changed my designator and became a Naval Intelligence Officer and stayed in the reserves after leaving active duty in 1978 until 2003, retiring as a Commander/05.
In 1978, after getting off of active duty, I started working as a junior architect in New York, then St. Louis where I completed an MBA; then more architectural practice in San Diego (interupted by being called back to active duty for Desrt Shield in Iraq) then practising architecture in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Germany, Switzerland for five years and at last Phoenix, Arizona, where I married my second wife, ...Expand for more
Kathy, in 1995.
I fathered two daughters in my first marriage; Lauren and Allison. Lauren is on her way to a PHD program later this year and Allison is in her second year of school at Occidental College.
In 2003, I was diagnosed with a rare form of Lymphoma and battled this through a blizzard of chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and surgeries to a 2005 stem cell transplant that was successful. I have now jump-started my architectural practice here in Phoenix and am busy doing residential and commercial projects when I am not fishing or hunting or hiking in the mountains of northern Arizona, further developing an appreciation for the life that almost escaped me.
Workplace
I am an architect and own a small practice called Beresford Architects LLC. The business is in Phoenix, Arizona, where I live. We do housing (both single and multi-family), commercial, hospitality and medical projects, and remodels and renovations in the same market areas.
