Bill's Story

Life Went to UNC-CH, classmates with Michael Jordan (who retired before I got a real job), studied chemistry, went to grad school at Florida State for Organic Chemistry, worked for State of FL doing mindless chem job and running competitively. Had a blast. Back to school for Inorganic Chemistry, post-doc at Johns Hopkins, taught at College of Charleston, back to Tallahassee for another post-doc and teaching. MJ retired (first time). Got a real job at Savannah River (Aiken, SC) as research scientist. Took my 4 yr old daughter to the 1999 Masters for an afternoon, and my son was born in Augusta a couple years later. After 4 years in SC, moved to Los Alamos National Lab as a Project Leader, where I am now. I coach soccer for my daughter, and I lo...Expand for more
ve playing sports with the kids. Learned to snowboard on our local ski hill and I love it (you know what dot pajarito dot com). All the snow in 2005 cut into my running but we don't have enough snow this year to get started, so I started playing hockey. My son (5) and daughter (11) ski and are good ice skaters (Sam is a pretty good hockey player), and I am sure Sam will pick up snowboarding in 2007. I never thought I could tolerate the cold but with the low humidity (and good clothing!), it is not bad. The kids are so busy. I still enjoy running, even at 7300 feet. I am not sure if it is the age or the altitude but I have slowed down. I still didn't join this Classmates thing, well, not yet anyway. Work is great and life is ok. -Bill, 12-8-2006
