Bill's Story
After graduating from Stanford in 1982, I went on staff with a campus ministry called Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship. This kept me at Stanford until 1990, when I married fellow staff member Becky Heffner (a Cal grad), and we spent our first year of marrige in Costa Rica. Our first child, Eric, was born at the end of that year and we returned to the US. After short stays in Oakland and Sophia, Bulgaria, we ended up at Fuller Theological Seminary from 1992 to 1995 where I went throught the M.Div. program. During these years in Pasadena, we had our second and third children (Jenna and Justen). After gradutating, I joined the staff of La Canada Presbyterian Church as the director of the missions program while I also began work on a PhD at Fuller. Tryin...Expand for more
g to work, do a PhD, and be a dad was too much, so after two years of trying, I dropped out of Fuller and moved to Seattle to pastor a small church. We were in Seattle for 11 years (1997 to 2008). Seattle is a beautiful city and we have a wonderful group of friends there, but we could not take the 9 months of gray and cold. So recently we moved to Tucson, AZ, and I joined three friends from Stanford in a new company aimed at producing biodiesel from a plant called jatropha. We are developing jatropha plantations in Ghana, West Africa with the hope of developing the economy, doing something good for the environment, and making a profit. My three kids are now 17, 14, and 11 and all love playing soccer. I hope to make the reunion and catch up old friends!
