Bill's Story
College
Flunked out of Newberry College (1961), joined the USAF and went to night classes at Long Island University, finished my BA in poli sci at USC (1966); earned an MA in history at USC (1969); and a Ph.D. in poli sci at Penn State (1991).
Workplace
Taught history and poli sci for many years, was a research administrator at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, took early retirement and joined the Foreign Service. Assignments in Swazila...Expand for more
nd, Botswana, The Netherlands, Washington, D.C., and Thailand. Retired in 2007 to Charleston. Still work as a training consultant.
Military
Joined the USAF after flunking out of Newberry. Woke up and started going to school at night, after work. Said I was a college student and the Air Force was just my hobby. Assigned for two and half years at Suffolk County AFB on Long Island, 80 miles from the City. Spent my last 10 months at Thule AFB, Greenland.
