Billy's Story

Life I am living in the North Laurel part of Howard County in a cramped town home but the area is nice and the schools are great for my step daughter, April. I am married to Gina (Landolt)(Clements) Crist. We met at Ledos when I was eleven years old and she was 19 working as a bartender. My dad would always stop by for a few beers after football or baseball games that he coached. We started dating after she broke up with her first husband and have been together ever since. We married in May of 2000. She has two daughters. The oldest is Jennifer who has a daughter of her own, Jordan, who is four years old. I can't believe it but that made me a Grandfather at the ripe old age of 34. That is why Jordan was conditioned to call me "B" instead of any derivative of Grandfather. I still bowl duckpins but just once a week now so I am only mediocre at best but I do enjoy it. It is the only regular activity I have during the cold months. I am very fond of golf now. I am a 22 handicap which for those of you who don't know what that means is that I am not very good. I don't play enoght to get better and I only play if the temperature is above 60 degrees so I am not a lunatic about playing the game. That is problably why I am not very good. College I don't remember anything much about PGCC except the two friends that I made while going to school. Steve and Melissa Hahn. I don't remember Melissa's maiden name though. I was even somehow invited to be in the wedding party for them. Steve got me the job as a Front Desk Mangager at the Hampton Inn when he was the Assistant GM. Steve became the GM and the management company brought in a women named Roxanne to be the AGM. I did not think about it at the time but I should have known that my days were numbered. I got a call from my old boss at the College Park Comfort Inn about the AGM job at the Van Dorn street Comfort Inn and I went to talk to her about it. Three days later Steve fired me. He said it was because of the owners were selling the property. They did but our relationsip never was the same. I don't know what I did but for some reason we never really talked much after that and haven't to this day. They use to live in Waldorf and I know they had a couple of kids but I stopped trying to keep track of them years ago. I wish ...Expand for more
I hadn't lost track of them. Melissa worked at the Colony South Hotel for a long time. I am goint to have to start there in order to try and track them down. Workplace I am your average Joe Blow. Not hard to predict if you know me at all. I couldn't decide what to do after High School so I did not do anything but work at Ledo's for a year or two then I decided to go to PGCC and study Hospitality Management. I then worked in three suburban Comfort Inns and one Hampton Inn. Then the Marcos brothers (Ledo Restaurant) decided to open a place in Bowie since they lost out on the Ledo Pizza franchise company. I worked for Jimmy as his assistant manager for two and a half years and figured that wasn't going any where so I learned enough about the cash register/point of sale system that I applied for work with Micros Systems, Inc. Micros was located in Beltsville on US 1 for a long time and in 2000 built their own building in Columbia instead of renting space in four different building in Beltsville. I was a product installer which is the low end of the scale in software product sales and service but it was something new taht I could gow with unlike at Ledos so I eventually became a product tester in the research and developement department. The product I worked on is called Retaurant Enterprise Series 2800. The company found Vie de France to be a beta test site for the new software product and that how I began a realationship with the staff at VDFY. A guy quit working for VDFY and they offered me a job at a 33% increase in pay that Micros did not even try to match until my second to last day of my two week notice so I left and have spent six tumultuous years with VDFY. Within ten months of getting the job I was kept on after half of the IT departments staff was let go. My direct supervisor, Jane Gray, and the departments director plus others. At the time there were 23 locations that I was in charge of maintaing the POS systems software and hardware. Now there are 8 cafe locatioon still operating. Seven in the D.C. area and 1 in Californina. Two of those locations actually opened after I started working here. Things look bleek at VDFY for the Cafe division but the manufacturing/wholesale business is doing well. Hopefully they keep the cafes operating and keep me employeed.
