Billy's Story

In 1974 I moved to Eugene Oregon, quite a change from New Jersey! I had gone to Rutgers University and the University of Oregon but never felt like I fit in. In 1975, in a time of financial desperation, I took a job as a nurses aide in a nursing home and found my true calling.. In 1976 I started nursing school at Lane Community College and graduated in 1978, passed the nursing boards and became an RN. My first week at LCC I sat next to a charming girl Julie Dahl. We became increasingly close and married in 1979. Children followed in 1983 and 1987. I had a 36 year nursing career working as an ICU nurse, nurse ...Expand for more
recruiter, home health nurse and hospice nurse. Julie and I worked together in hospice for about ten years. It was very difficult, very meaningful and very rewarding work. I also was very active in the Oregon Nurses Association, serving as a bargaining unit chair for 16 years helping to negotiate our contracts. I also served in various roles with ONA. including the Board of Directors.. Julie and I retired on the same day in 2014 - oh happy day! I enjoy travel, reading, playing acoustic guitar, walking our dog and being a grandfather to our two year old grandson. I am looking forward to the reunion in May, 2020.
