Billy's Story

Life After high school, I attended Clemson for 1 year, transfered to Furman and graduated 3 years later. Shortly after Furman graduation, I entered U.S. Army as a 2nd Looey in Army Artillery, (a liberal arts major with all those engineers?). I served with the 1st Calvary in Korea and the U.S.A. and married Joyce Miles, a Greenville native, shortly before discharge. I worked 6 years for Deering Milliken in Production Management, and 6 years for General Electric in Greenville in various Financial Management positions. While in Greenville, my wife and I adopted a 3 month old baby girl that we named Elizabeth. A beautiful child and now an adult with a family ...Expand for more
of her own. She has given us three grandsons. To continue my work career, I worked the last 25 years with R.J. Reynolds in Winston-Salem, NC. I held various Financial Management positions and worked the last 3 years as Strategic Planning Manager. I chose to take early retirement at age 62 in 1999 and have been so busy since, I do not know how I found time to work. I now live in a golf community named Salem Glen in Clemmons, NC, a small village just west of Winston-Salem. My sister and various relatives still live in Greenville, and I get to Greenville several times each year. Looking forward to the rest of the story because I retired from work, not life.
