Blaine's Story
Thirty years ago I left NBPT High School, actually the truth is, they chased me out, and I quickly joined the Army to escape my hometown blues and my image. I ended up over the ocean in West Germany, now just Germany, and despite the groans of my family in Newburyport, I stayed on and still live here. I was married twenty odd years before we joined the half of all marriages that miserably fail. One of my three sons still lives with me, the other two live with their mates. I have become fluent in German, but still dream heavily in english. I was back home in 1996, hoping my class of 76 would throw a 20 year reunion, but nothing happened. ven met! Joining the military obviously changed me and my life forever!! I was not alone though. (This was during Jimmy Carters reign, no chance of being sent to fight a war.) Though we all joined for various reasons, basically it all boiled down to just one, to get away from problems at home. People tend to pin you down with their thoughts in your hometown, you have to remain who you were. I was a strange kid.
And Newburyport was never like this...
525 was a tiny depot, there were only a few hundred of us in all. We had to travel by bus to do anything. So, we were tossed together on the MAD BUS (true name) and you know what the driver was smoking. Still- Brian, Mike, Jimmy, George, Tina, Rubino, Tess, Dan, Annette, Mark and all the rest of you who walked down those silent, foggy streets of Depot at night know what I mean when I say it was truly magic. I dont think we are in Kansas anymore...
So write me. Try your luck..
