Blaine's Story
Life
Henry Van Dyke once said, "Be glad of life, because it gives you the chance to love and to work and to play and to look up at the stars."
I'd be lying if I said I haven't done any of those things, perhaps some with more passion and aspiration than the others.
I grew up in Edinburg, went to Edinburg schools and really enjoyed my school years.
I was raised in a poor, but humble home and as a young adult I didn't pay much attention to what I really wanted to do in life, I spent too much time in the fast lane. Unfortunately, the fast lane gets old real quick and catches up with you. Reality hits you square in the forehead and then you gotta deal with it. I had my "15 minutes of fame", 15 minutes I could have done without.
In the process of becoming an adult, it took me awhile to "find" myself. I did have to go thru a few "stages" to get here, but I got here! (I hope!)
I've only had a few "real" romances in my life, resulting in my having a slight obsession for redheads....and younger women.
I live in Laguna Vista, Tx., near South Padre Island and I love it! I'm 15 minutes from the beach, where I'm happiest, and I'm always meeting some great people. I have a small sailboat that I don't use often enough.
I do have my nostalgic, sometimes melancholy moments and sometimes wish I had done some things different, but hey, no matter where you go,...there you are, right?
Now...I enjoy living life with as much gusto as I can, and I'm not so old that I've given up looking for the adventure in life, but I realize that I'm no longer so young that I can relive the "old days", ...nor am I...Expand for more
sure that I'd want to. Well, maybe "some" of them.:-)
I miss some of the old crowd and this is my way of trying to reconnect with some of them. I hope I'm successful.
Now, I know this isn't this isn't your "run of the mill" bio, but I think that the specifics aren't as important as the feeling the memories bring.
(My apologies for all the quotation marks)
School
How does one describe a mediocre school biography?
I went to Thomas Jefferson Elementary School from 1st thru 3rd grades. It was there I met people I would know for most of my young school years and later. From 4th thru 6th grades I was fortunate enough to attend St. Joseph's Catholic School.
I then went to Edinburg Jr. High for 1 year, I felt like a "pair of brown shoes at a tuxedo party", so to speak. I started playing football there but dropped out of the sport and tried basketball. I was so bad at that I was a reserve player for a 4th stringer! Then...8th thru 12th,...and 12th again, at Edinburg High School, the old one...on Freddy Gonzalez.
I loved those years! I miss'em! I shoulda paid more attention in class! I had to stay an extra year, but I got it right!
Later in life I took some Continuing Education Classes while working for Tropical Texas Center for MHMR for 13 years, plus I'm always contributing to my Phd. in "Street Sense", as a great man and mentor once described it.
I've audited a few classes at UT in Brownsville, just to keep up with the world and I'm still learning about life,...ain't we all?
There,...maybe more information than you want to know, but hey, those were MY school years.
