Blair's Story

Married, no kids. We live in West Seattle. Retired from Boeing at the end of March 2023, after being a planner/scheduler there for 18 years. The first two programs I worked on at Boeing involved manned ground vehicles for the Army, and then commercial satellite launches. The program I worked on for the final 8 years at Boeing was VC-25B, the 747-8 planes that will replace the current Air Force One 747-200 planes. Prior to Boeing, I worked at Todd Shipyard for 15 years, holding a number of positions, starting on the tools as a shipfitter, then running the Accuracy Control program for the construction of the three Jumbo Mark II ferries, then into Quality Assurance, and finally planning and scheduling. In the 1980's, I jumped back and forth between working on the tools in the shipyards, trying to play keyboards in hard rock cover bands ("trying" being the operative word there), and driving a taxi. And unlike in my High School days, I was a total stoner in the 1980's. (Guess I felt I had to make up for lost time.) In the 1970's I received my Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design from the UW Departme...Expand for more
nt of Architecture. I worked for an architect for a year after graduation. It was all hand drafting at that time, and my drafting skills were horrible. I decided that hunching over a drafting board for eight hours a day at an abysmal wage just wasn't going to work for me. So I went into the shipyards and learned shipfitting, earning a better wage. So what's next after retiring? Working through my backlog of home improvement projects right now is keeping me busier than when I was "working". Going to open mics where my wife performs spoken word, and I occasionally accompany her on the bongo drums. Doing karaoke with her a few times a month. Trying to get better at vegetable gardening. Hoping to get better at keyboards someday soon. Maybe trying the saxophone. Improving my Spanish. And, since I have lived in or near Seattle all my life, I figure it is about time to learn to speak the language, Lushootseed. Since you've made it this far, feel free to drop me a line.
